Hello, I'm from Spain and I'm going to prepare my Celica 6gen GT 2.0 16v 175hp 3S-GE for rallys (sorry for my english, there is a lot of vocabulary that I don't control about cars)

I'm trying to find a short gearbox for my car but I can't. I've found for the GT4 version, but I supose that it can't fit on mine.

Let me explain to you. I'don't know exactly how to call this. What I'm looking for is not the complete gearbox, it's just the pieces inside of it for making the gears shorter (at this moment the second gear goes to 100km/h and I want it to go to 80km/h) Do you know what I mean?

Thanks a lot!

Even with the ST205 gearbox you will end up going about 95km/h in 2nd gear. Its 110km/h in 2nd gear BTW if you go up to 7200 RPM on the 3S-GE

The only thing you can do to go a bit shorter is getting a USA GT transmission. It has a shorter Final Drive , the gears itself are the same. It was also used on Toyota Camry's with the 2.2 Liter 5S-FE block.

Final Drive Ratio US GT: 4.176
Final Drive Ratio EU GT: 3.944

It should give about 5-7 procent difference in speed.

what about using some of the gears from a 1.8 celica? I wouldn't expect it to be geared the same as the GT as its a smaller 8valve engine.
or maybe something from another toyota would have the correct gear ratios?

Get an XTRAC gearbox they make them for all sorts of cars, the make them ecspeciall for rally. its a sequential gearbox too, bit pricey though, if you have a bottomless pit of money to spend get this. http://www.xtrac.com/mainindex.htm u can have one built for you they make a rally one already but i dk if it will fit your specification

Ufff, that's too expensive for me.

That gearbox could cost more than the celica

We have one guy wanting taller gearing... and now another wanting shorter... hahaha...

Umm... if it hasn't been mentioned already... a US version S54 will get you a higher final drive, which will shorten all of your gears... but it's not that big of a difference. Maybe if you ran smaller wheels?

I can't go with 15 inches because of the brakes. They are 13 inches big with 8 pistons. In the pictures you can see it with the fifteen's but I've bought 12 rims of 17 inches for racing.

Thanks, I've sent them an e-mail asking. I've seen close gearkits for GT4, but I don't know if they can fit on mine

Thanks

If you're interested, get a tranny from a 92-93 Celica GT. They have the 4.1 final drive that we get over here.

I don't know, but this page tells me that a 1.8L Carina has 16 valves:

They will probably be 16V now, but back in 94 - 99 I think they were 8V. Could be wrong, I'm just going from what a mechanic told me.

Toyota hasn't run an 8 valve motor in a small car since the 80's. The last one's were the 22R's in the trucks, which stopped in 1994.

Also... gear sets for the ST205 aren't gonna work. Different tranny.
