Few weeks ago I searched VIN from JDM Celica (like many people here for ordering parts from Toyota dealer). Now I have answers for anyone (who care smile.gif)

first some terms:
Model number: It's identification of car model. It's shared for all cars of model series. Every Celicas has that number!
(example: all USDM ATM convertibles has same model number -> ST204L-BKPGKA)
Frame number: It's unique body number. It's model code and 7 numbers combination. Every Celica has it's own body number!
(example: AT200-1234567 -> frame number of some 1.8 ST Celica)
VIN: it's whole vehicle identification number. It's again combination.
First 8 characters (non-JDM) or 8 numbers (JDM) are shared numbers derived from Model number.
(example: for model number ST204L-BKPGKA it's JT5FG02T or JT5ST07K)
Next number (9th) number is just some check digit
(example: JT2AT00F2S0045016)
Next character (10th)
(example: JT2AT00F2S0045016 VIN code -> "S" is code for model year 1995)
Last 7 numbers are those 7 numbers from Frame number. In fine, all Celicas must have VIN number!

Because I love examples (making all clear for everyone) wink.gif:

one non-JDM VIN (taken from Chiltons repair manual smile.gif). Ypu can find it w/o problem on your car (see VIN - part one topic)
JT2AT00F2S0045016
a) from first 8 characters (because it starts with letters "JT" not with numbers it's non-JDM VIN)
"JT2AT00F" we can derivate Model number -> It's AT200L-BCMSKA or AT200L-BCPSKA
so it's made between 09/93 - 12/97 for US market, it's LHD, it's MTM or ATM and has 7A-FE engine. All we can find so far...
b) 10th letter is "S" -> it's 1995 made
c) last 7 numbers "0045016" -> Frame model AT200-0045016

that's all we can find about this car...

now some informations from JDM car... For sure you can't find whole VIN there... just:
Model number: ST202-0130523
Frame number: ST202-BLPZF
and year 1998
from engine plate... (more info again here) I have that from one e-bay auction .
From Frame number we can derivate first 8 numbers of VIN -> 07508200
From Model number we can use last 7 numbers -> 0130523
1998 -> W
now just some "check digit" -> why not "2" wink.gif
so VIN should look something like this: 075082002W0130523... however... I have never seen VIN like this, I belive it will not work for sure... kindasad.gif

so result:
Euro/US/CAN/AUS EPC works just with VIN like we all know (JT2AT00F2S0045016)
JDM EPC works just with Frame and Model numbers (ST202-0130523, ST202-BLPZF)

so... fact you can order JDM part from Toyota dealer is depended only on ability order via JDM EPC or if he can order parts just by any part number...
