it figures the other day when i finally was excited that my car wasnt ****ing up and only had tiny problems today it stalled out and now it cranks and does not start, we smelled the exhaust and it smelled like fuel so we assumed spark. i just bought a new coil, well a used one from mr2oc, but right now im kind of flustered because its really hot out and im already regretting bringing my car to school.
i guess i have to get a hold of a multimeter and test the coil and ignitor, but i wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions too. btw i pulled off the line going from the coil to the dist and it was not getting any spark. |

ive learned to start with checking all the fuses 1st. check the grounds than too. um..?

i dont think the wire coming from the distributor leading to the coil is supposed to have spark cuase its just a constant power. Shouldnt you only get spark from the wires leading from the distributor to the plugs?

It is what takes the 12v current and changes it over to a high voltage AC current for your spark plugs. So everytime the ignitor sends a pulse to the ECU for spark.. the ecu gives the coil ground signal which leads to a high voltage AC current pulse to the dizzy cap which transfers to the rotor and then the current jumps from the rotor to the proper tower in the dizzy cap then out to the plug wire. Might be wrong about something there but that is the basic idea of it. -------------------- 87 4runner DLX 22re, 5spd, 4.30gr, 4" lift, 30" tires, HID w/ Projectors, 6spkr + sub, custom exhaust, 94 celica leather seats, SR5 gauge cluster and clinometer. Future engine swap... possibly a 2jzge.
