Ok, let's say I get a injen intake with the heat shield. Is there a place where I can get a cold air box (already made) to fit in my 99' GT and be big enough to enclose that huge filter?
Or let's say I was going to build one out of aluminum where do I bolt it down to? Has anyone built one? Any close up photos and/or instructions? |

There aren't any Air box replacements no. You might be lucky and find a generic pod filter air box, but I've never seen one. I've never seen a decent custom job either, most of the attempts at custom air boxes have turned out UUUUgly!
If you make one yourself, I'm sure you could figure out where to attach it to, a good tip is to make a custom bracket like they do for exhausts - usually just a small stick of steel bent about 90deg, with one end welded to the car body and the other to the exhaust / in your case intake. Go have a play and get your hands dirty |

Try keeping the stock box and getting a high flow filter. Once you have this run a 2.5 or 3 inch cold air intake pipe from under the car up to the factory air box.
(There are some air vents under the car on the plastic splash guard you can run the pipe thru.) Then modify or cut & attach the cold air pipe to the bottom half of the stock/factory box. Seal all gaps. You will notice the air intake that runs from the factory box into the side guard. This unfortunatly only sucks air from inside the guard. The idea is you are getting cold (some what) forced air into the box & thru the filter. A tip is to also put a stocking over the opening on the pipe under car to stop leaves and cigarette butts from getting in. I had posted an instruction on the How-To page explaining it but they havn't posted it yet... Maybe email Coomer & ask if they are going to publish it online..they might be testing it out first before they put it online. |

This is a pic of my car, you can see where my ghetto rigged intake connects with the vents on the plastic underbody.
I think these vents could have as much potential as hood scoops/vents, if you did a good job, and if you used them WITH a hood scoop, you could get the engine bay nice and cool. This post has been edited by kamixZR: Jun 23, 2003 - 3:44 AM |
