Just got my first car a couple a weeks ago. Black Celica 1.8, 1997. Only problem is that the stereo only plays tapes and the speakers are stock and really lousy. I've decided to buy a new HU and some new speakers. I think i am gonna buy a pair of Rainbow SLX265 Deluxe speakers for the rear and Rainbow SLC265 for the front.
Only problem here is that when i took of the front panel to double check the size of the speakers i found out the speakers only are 13 cm (5.25") and not 16,5 cm (6.5") as mentioned here on the board. That goes for both the front and the rear speakers. Is it still possible to make the speakers fit? Picture of the rear speaker: This post has been edited by Ravnen: Sep 5, 2006 - 11:48 AM |

Modifying is always possible but its easier if you just exchange the part back to the audio store. If the mod isn't clean, it sucks to know its been called rigged.
The rear speakers are 6.5" perfect fit, I'll give you a tip though, if you get the speakers, make sure you don't get the holes that mount along the rim of the speaker, instead get the speakers that mount on the corners of the rim. This is how the factory speakers mount. This post has been edited by trdproven: Sep 6, 2006 - 8:37 AM -------------------- 94 Celica GT

Also, perhaps the Denmark Celica's were different. They do make 5.25" speakers; you could try a set of them and see if they would work.
Speakers are usually sized by the size of the plate they mount on and not the speaker itself, for obvious reasons. It can be a little funny at times. Is that the front or the rear? Any chance of a bit wider shot so we can see if bracket-wise it is different? -------------------- |

So that is the rear panel? Do you still have a question about the front?

I bought a pair of FOCAL-ACCESS-165CA1 and had to make some adapter rings out of 3mm thick mdf (and sprayed black). As for the rears, I had some MB Quart 5.25" with the supplied adapters, then shaved off excess plastic from the rear mounting brackets (what a pain to get at and remove.)
