I had a mechanic look at it, and i was very disappointed by his "work". My family pretty much all drives toyotas, so my aunt said that she would ask her toyota mechanic guy come over and check it out. I wasnt exspecting him to come over and magically fix it. But we scheduled a time for him to come over. So that time came and then he had to reschedule, ok so no big deal. And then when he does come over, he like brings his whole family over, and like looks under my hood, and just asks me like, "did you check spark? fuel?" whatnot pretty much everything ive been looking at for months, but yeah i understand he wasn't there and he was just trying to get an understanding. So then he starts connecting some of the broken wires together and told me that sometimes it will fix the problem, but im like "but those wires aren't even the same color..." Then he tells me to just do a JDM swap to it. And he's like, i can't fix this, and he leaves. It's not like i wasn't paying him or anything. I could understand if i asked him to do it for free or as a favor, but when i was paying to him, he help me out with something atleast ya know? Sorry bout the rant.

and about the AFM, it's a good price, but how can i be sure if it works? Cuase i can see a lot of sealant on top of it, and usually i only see that if someone has taken the AFM apart in attempt to fix it or something. But hey, i could be wrong, i'll have to consider it and take a chance if i ever want to get this car running.

Any idea what it would cost me to get it working?? Celica doesn't like to sit on the street, it gets dirty, and i had to take some of the lights off and bring them inside cuase someone tried to steal them before >=(. See, it's sitting there all sad =(.

IPB Image

sorry for the random pic, but i just washed the bimmer and was taking pics. im going back out now cuase it's the celicas turn for a bath. it might not run, but that doesn't mean it can't be sexy too! biggrin.gif

Have you tried posting on mr2oc.com? A 3s is a 3s, and all trac.net is never much help when I post over there, I find mr2oc to be a much better place, and maybe you can find someone in so cal with a mr2 or alltrac to come over and hook their afm up and see if that is your problem or not. I kinda think you need to ditch your aftermarket coil and get a oem one.

I still have the OEM one and i can splice the connector back on. I made sure to cut it off so i could have enough wire to do so just incase i wanted to switch back smile.gif . I got ripped off a few times on Alltrac.net and it was kinda upsetting. I asked people for help and they were like, "Oh i have that part, i can help you out." and then i would end up buying it, and then the part i get isn't even the right part for the car. Like when i wanted another OEM coil and ignitor to try. This guy said he had one from his 91 Alltrac that he did a swap to, so im like ok and i bought it, and he sent it to me and it looks like he sent me one off a different toyota. Im not sure, but it definatly was not for my alltrac and the coil wire wouldn't even plug into it. He was giving me excuses on the late shipment too, like "oh i have the ignitor, but i cant find the coil right now, give me a few more days". But the thing was when i recieved them, they were connected together, and you could tell from the screws that they were never even separated. Another guy sold me a steering column that "would fit for sure", i got it, took my old one out, try to bolt the new one in, and it does not even line up the same way. I never heard from either of them again. So this is the only reason why im skepticle when buying used parts from people frown.gif . i've had bad experiences. sorry for the rant again =/. i just got in from washing the celica, and now that i seen it clean again.. there's no way i can let it go.. hahaha laugh.gif

But i might check out MRoc.com. i have never been there before, but i heard that there are some very knowledgable people over there. thanks for the advice. smile.gif

btw.. hehe, i know it's off topic completely, but here's a pic of my celi after the bath and with the lights in biggrin.gif

EDIT: hey i found a picture of that sensor with the broken wire i took awhile back. It's that sensor on the top left of the picture, if you follow the wire you can see that it connects to a connector, and the other end connects to nothing. And you can see the other broken wire poping out of the loom. touching these two wires together does nothing to affect how the car runs becuase ive tried it. The wires are also not the same color so they prolly don't even go together (but i could be wrong). If you cant tell where this is located at, it is located on the right side of the engine (looking from the front) right in front of the distributor. Does anybody know what sensor that is?

I say keep the Celica and get her running, I know pay for diagnosis sucks, but it's a great car (much better than a Miata).

With that said, a friend of mine sold his early 90s 170whp turbo miata, and has been regretting it ever since. smile.gif

Hahah everytime i see an early 90's miata, i think of the movie "Cars" hahaha. i saw a really nice looking miata when i was out today. it was lowered and was like a gun metal color. the only thing i don't like is the convertible top rear window, im not a fan of soft plastic rear window, but i also wouldnt spend the money for the hard top haha. I like my celica vert's glass rear window biggrin.gif. But the decision is im keeping the Alltrac (unless i get like a really amazing offer for it hahaha)

Don't ever ask a question on 6GC that involves "Celica or XXX Vehicle." Go to a neutral site lol. Or decide for yourself. Drive the Miata...they're fun. Awesome for autocross too. I don't think Alltracs are anything great to be honest. Everyone sackrides them here. And to tell you the truth, it won't appreciate in value like whoever said here. If it isn't running trade it, get a FlyinMiata kit, and I bet you have a lot of fun.

I didn't wanna say it, but I agree with you. Waaaay too much bias for the altrac on this site because kids see "AWD" and "turbo" and automatically think it's god. I love celicas, I love Altracs, but I'm willing to admit it's too heavy and underpowered for what it is, and that AWD is faaaaar more overrated than most people make it out to be. Then throw in the fact that Miatas are very very good at what they do, and it's really no competition.

Yea the altrac is sexy, yea it's rare, yea it's more than most ricers have; it's a special car..... but that doesn't make it superior. If the darn thing isn't running, I'd be all over that Miata, because cars come and go, and you'll be far better off and happier in the long run knowing you tried some of everything.

That sensor is the tempature gauge sensor. That doesn't effect how it runs. I would fix those wires and then find someone with an mr2t or alltrac and swap out afm, coil etc.. till you find the problem.

your totally right. If its broke and not running, dont even try to put any effort or anything into it. Because anything that you have to put some time into isnt worth it anymore. God forbid you should ever have to try to get something the way you want it. redface.gif

that damages the insides, if it was only slightly removed it could be damaged. my firends mr2 did that, it ran like ass randomly turning off and on. but when the screwed were removed, thing never ran. In the end you want to sell it, if my financial situation is in order, id like to purchase it to. Either way, it would be cool to help you get it running agian.

The repair manuals are online at CelicaTech.com.
Or you could Buy the paper manuals ?
Great to have the diagnostic steps at your finger tip.

Wiring diagrams are Priceless too.
The ST185 has the wire locations and wire color codes.

The unconnected blue/red wire makes me nervous.

Grounds are a Real PITA. A bit of rust and you car
may not start or run right.

Start with the simple cheap and keep trying. Good luck,

Thanks for the advice smile.gif, i have no idea where to start on finding out which blue wire that is for though. I have the EWD, and i have both of the BGBs for the 1991 celicas. Those books have gotten me this far, even though the car still doesn't run, it has come a long way from when i purchased it. The problem im facing is that the is EWD divided up into sections. And then from there it helps you diagnose the problem. However, i have no idea what section that blue wire is found under. It could be under fuel control, under engine management, ignition, or even just a light. I have no clue, but there could be a blue wire under all of the diagrams. Do you think that it's time for me to just start cutting loom and follow that wire somewhere? But then again...where is the other end of the wire? so confusing...

I would first check that sensor that has the crappy connector coming off of it and see where that goes to in the ecu then get a multi meter and hook it up to that blue wire and see if you get a connection to that pin on the ecu. It looks like to me that the wire with the crappy connector is supposed to be attached to that blue wire.

Also I would test your AFM with a multi meter and see if it checks out per the bgb if not you might as well open it up and see what is going on and if you can fix it, if its busted you need a new one anyway and you can't bust it more.
