I got 18" rims on. When I first had it, my car felt heavier for some reason. Maybe becuz my new wheels weighed more than the stock 14" wheels. BUT then I notice as I raced, my car pulled more as if it had more traction? I don't know but I definately had way better handling and that's on stock suspension.

So yeah, I'm saying your friend is totally wrong.

Man... sometimes friends that have a different car tell you things and seems like advice but it really isn't. They just don't want you to be better than them. Trust me, I have a bunch of Honda freaks as friends. LoL. But yeah, if you are going for looks, it's a definate. If you going low profile tires, be careful with ditchs and bumps. My rims are already bent from gay Orlando city roads.

ya...tahts kinda what i figured. he sees my car has potential, and is jealous...lol
ya id get the lo-pro's but i dont wnat ot get them to little. most of the roads i drive usually dont ahve much bumps nad what not, but im still gonna take anytype of bump i encounter nice and slowww, and i think i might get some teins s-techs....but ima wait and see how it looks w/ jsut hte rims. but i hear the s-techs make it look 200 X better

if you're going for performance, bigger wheels impact the speed, and handling, of any car.

it's heavier, which means it takes more energy to spin the tire.
it's not easy on your stock suspension, either.

at the MOST i'd go for 17" and make sure you got some sidewalls, not just rubber bands.

The springs will probably help with the recoil when hitting bumps and ditches. But they are very bumpy. So best be careful if you hit a big bump esp if you have a body kit on. But I guess you won't have to worry about that. Yeah, definately go for the TEIN S-Tech Lowering Springs for looks. Coilovers are very stiff and have bad recoil but they are height adjustable.

no, you're just feeling the wider tire on the straights.

in corners, you're just abusing the hell out of your suspension. on bumpy roads, your shocks have more unsprung weight to damper, and general braking / acceleration times are increased. it throws off your speedometer, and makes your car a bit slower.

the only thing 18" wheels do for a celica is look cool, other than that, the cons outweigh the pros. with a big enough tire on a 17" wheel you wouldn't notice the difference between them and 18" wheels, at all.

it would be decent if you did suspension work as well. if you're looking for performance, it will do nothing but negatively affect your car.

it looks good but it just isn't really a sound setup, particularly because people wind up using rubber bands for tires on them. you're basically running down the road on metal with a 1" thick strip of rubber as a contact patch. it's a rough ride.

i have 18x7.5 and they only thing i notice is that it take a hell of alot more gas to bark the tires...there is more of a contact patch..so i think they are ok..i got the rubber band on my car now 35 sidewall there a bit thin... but if you get the 18s them i recomend a 40 side wall..
and they are a bit heavy at 25 puounds a peice but the wheels i got weret the same weight for 17s and the 18s. lok in my profile for comparison on stack suspension.

personally, on a celica, i would only do a 16 or 17 inch rim. never an 18.

i've had 17s and 18s you really don't notice a difference between the two and 18s a perfect imo...they handle great i ran 225/35/18s...and also had coilovers to back them up...handling between my 18s and my 14s/15s wasn't really a change at all the 18s did roll like the 14s/15s due to them having larger sidewalls and imo the 18s stuck better

Bigger rims and wider tires will also hurt acceleration aerodynamically.
