I am on a very fixed budget lately, i was wondering if there was anything that I could do to give me a little or lot more horsepower without spending 300+ dollars... I was hoping for something I could customize myself, i was especially interested in the DIY pages of this site and how informative they were in the CAI process... but would an intake actually effect my performance?

anybody that could give me ideas or help would be amazing!
thanks

A CAI most likely will not add a noticeable difference in performance alone. You could do a custom catback exhuast too, but still it's not going to be a huge gain, if any. But these are your basic performance upgrades (BPU) What kind of celica do you have? $300 isn't going to get you much in the performance catagory right now.

if you want high performance for low costs, you got the wrong car. the only effective way to get some real power is to turbo or swap. and you're gonna need a lot more money than 300 bucks. that's only gonna get you less that 10hp with a cai and exhaust and whatever else you can find with the change left over. and i love the cai mod. but you're not gonna be like "omfg my car is fast!" i suggest you save your money or spend it on suspension. handling on our cars is pretty good, but some springs/struts/sways will be even better. and for 300 bucks you can get some decent stuff.

the ST's 7afe isnt a 'go-fast for cheap' motor, you can make it a little less slow with an intake, header, exhaust, and if possible tinkering with the timeing a little. but for all of that it wont be a huge difference. ive in one way or another done all the above and while its noticable, its not a large difference. its a little more fun to drive now, but its very very far from fast. the sum of the mods is that...i have a flatter torque curve while still maintaining a topend. it'll still pull from 4000-5700rpm, and below 4000 its not bogging out either.

the celica has good handling, i'd focus on that aspect, because that alone can make it ALOT more fun to drive then just being able to go fast. all roads have turns.

what about chrome hubcaps w/ fake rotors to cover the rear drums? those look fast !!

in reality, the best cost/horsepower part is exactly what shocker posted. Real nitrous, only draw back is it requires PRO installation/tuning (or else...) and costs to fill up.
