Well, since winter is starting and I am not planing on doing anything to my celi cuz its a 1.8L Auto and its mainly a SoundQuality car now. Well now I am planing on saving up money for my next project, by next summer I'll probably have around 6-8G's to spend on it. So here are two choises that I have to make.
I wanna run the car all year round so it will be like my daily driver. I live in NY.
1) MR2 91-94 and swap 3SGTE into it.
2) 240SX 91-94 and swap SR20DET into it.

Tell me what you think, i am pretty sure you will say to go with Toyota cuz of celica and all.
Thank you

After doing a lil research it looks like SR swap is way easier then 3S. Tell me what you think about that. Becuase this is going to be my first swap I want it to be as easy as possible. At first I was just planing on getting 240SX and buying an 180SX clip with SR20DET and then doing a complete swap (not doing the wiring myself because there is a dude that converts 240SX to 180SX for $99). And SR is cheaper too smile.gif

SR's are cheaper to get horsepower from. I haven't really ever seen a reliable MR2, either.

Look at rickyB 350rwhp reliable engine, im on 400+rwhp reliable as well. I love the 3s if you look in the right places, but depending on your area the sr20 would be hazarderous to PD. But both are boost friendly, not as boost friendly as a 4g63 but still a very responsive motor. the reason a lot of the mr2s arnt reliable is becasue people throw on teeny tiny turbos (Ct26/ct20b/ct27) and boost 20psi on them. I havent had ANY extra problems with my mr2 than anything else, oil change, retoruqe headstuds once a year, timing belt every 60k, basic stuff

haha Yes I have seen that thing.... nice....

so anyway...sr20s you can make more power but the reliability issue goes down. Oil pump always has the same problem then the motor blows up.

3sgte always makes power and its reliable.

Sr20/240 you see it everywhere it used to be uncommon but everyone has one now there not cool anymore.

you can make alot less power with an mr2 and run much better times because its obviously a mid engine. you see less mr2s than 240s.... there a completely differnt feel.

clips are so cheep now its not fair.... under 2k now usualy for a sr20... Im leaning towards the mr2 only because I have one. But driving both I like the mr2 much better.

im not sure if its true or not, but i remember people saying a besic bpu 3s swap in a celica was faster then a basic sr20 swap in a 240. a jdm swaped bpu mr2 would probably kill it since those run a mid 13sec with not much done to them.

we used to have this running joke at meets, because every nissan we ever saw was swaped. i kept trying to find one that DIDNT have an sr20 in it. took a while before i ran into one... lol so yeah, its a VERY common swap.

another thing is, every time i see that motor in a car, it alwasy looks like a crappy, dirty motor that somehow makes power. ive yet to see one that was well done and well maintained.

besides all the negatives, i do like the body style of the newer (95+ ?) 240s. thats probably the one i would get if i was planning a swap.

S14. 95-98. I prefer the S13, but its all personal taste.

Man... why don't you just buy a TURBO'd MR2. Don't those already come with the 3SGTE in it? Save you money on the swap unless you are going after ST205 3SGTE motor on that tranny.

mr2 swap is generally plug & play. it can be done in a solid days work.

SR20DET swaps can be done in a day, as well.

although, the mr2 is a more interesting ride, at least, to me it is. sounds like two pretty even swaps to me. it's really up to what you want, a 240 or a turbo'd mr2.

if you have a 3sgte and overnight parts from japan, it will decimate all.

turbo = 3sgte
non-turbo = 5sfe

Yeah, I'd rather have a MR2 instead. First off... lighter chassis. Second, ST205 is better than SpecR.
