How do you get the shifter off on an auto? I took out the little screws, but it just came up about an inch. Then I unbolted everything down to the shift indicator thing and cannot get the shifter out. I have an Aluminum interior kit, and cannot get the last piece in because I cannot get the freaking shifter out!

I have done all I can think of. I have taken out the screws on the shifter. That releases it about an inch. Then I pulled the molding around the shifter, and then the actuall shift indicator. Nothing works.

I have an auto. There Is this aluminum piece that goes on the shift indicator. (the plastic around the shifter.) I must remove the shifter to put it in place.

Try prying off the Overdrive buttom plate and then the button it self. The wires are probably whats holding it in place.
