Why Imports Are Inferior.

This is probably the most non-violent (mostly) epic battle that has ever, and will ever be fought. Domestic versus import. Now, before you continue reading, open up your mind. I don't care if you are partial to either group. Listen. Imported cars have taken over two decades to gain a foothold in the US. Why? Because for the first 15 years, they were pure crap. Nothing more, nothing less. Now that alot of the plants are here in the US and that all the engine and car designs are American made, they are better. But even then, they are still a benchwarmer in the world of power. Now you may be thinking "WOAH! Wait a minute! What about the Lancer Evo?!" (Or cars like that). Think about it. Why is the Evo fast? Turbo. You could put a turbo of that caliber in any car and it would be very fast. But once you remove the turbo what do you have? I tiny, tiny four-cylinder engine. The Ford Mustang GT has a 0-60 of 5.2 seconds. The Evo is 4.7. Again you're thinking:
See! The Evo is faster, therefore better!" But you are wrong. Compare the weights of the two vehicles, the Evo is a tiny 4-cylinder and the Mustang is a HUGE 8-cylinder. When it comes to performance, nothing beats domestic. Have you ever heard of a stock V8 in an import? Of course not, thats because they don't exist! American cars go up to a V12!!!!! Anymore, V6 imports are rare! Now, I'll agree with you on the fact that they get, for the most part, better gas mileage. But they aren't equipped with flex-fuel or E-85. Look at it this way, we were driving cars in America while back in Japan they were still dreaming up dragons! We did it first, we did it right. Come on America, SUPPORT YOURSELF!




I especially like how he sttarts off talking like it's going to be some kind of non-partisan comment and then proceeds to rag on imports with not a single intelligent point. You'd be suprised how many people agree with him, too.

If every dickhead and their brother didn't drive a Furd Explorer, Excursion, F350, Fatty Caddy, or some old POS gashog, we wouldn't need flex-fuel or E-85.

I get tired of soccor moms driving a Ford Excursion (8MPG, I know peeps who drive em) to get a gallon of milk, and driving their fat lazy asses around the local parklinglot for 10 minutes to find a place closer to park so they don't have to walk anymore than they have to. Or as you are pulling out they pull right up behind you to get the little parking space you had, so close that they have to back up to let you out.


Then they cannot help but have their cart (yes they get a cart, as they cannot carry a gallon of milk through thte store) crossways in the isle you need through while you are shopping.

most american cars are good for the first 2 years, after that the nightmare begins. I'm sure that if I'd have an american car and drive it the way I drive my lil ST I would be riding a bike to work.

That struck me as odd, too. I don't think America has done the V12 car much since the 1920's and 30's. Nothing comes to mind off the top of my head. I'll look into it.

Edit: Couldn't find a single American car in decades that uses a V12. However, Japan has one: The Toyota Century (1GZ). Define Irony. The modern V12 is pretty much relegated to a European play-thing.

the thing i love most about people that like to say domestics are better than imports, is they they always choose to compare a domestic sports car to an import um.. economy car? Ok think about it. When he made the comparison to an Evo, ok fair enough, but he only had an arguement when you take the turbo off the car. Haha too bad Evo's come with turbos from the factory . Why dont they compare a pontiac sunfire to a civic? or a dodge neon to a celica? c'mon haha you can't compare cars that aren't even in the same class haha. Im not trying to say that either car is better or worse. Personally i think people should look at cars for what they are instead of concentrating on who makes them. Every company makes a good cars and bad cars, and all cars have their own problems. Ok we all like cars, people need to stop all the hating.

E85 makes sense.

When gas hits about $7 a gallon.

And yes, SUV's are a real culprit in taking up far more fuel than necessary; a V6 minivan (heck, an I4 minivan when they start making them again :lol: ) can suit 94% of the needs of soccer moms. But, they just aren't cool.

Don't underestimate, however, the impact of V8 domestic sports cars driven hard eating gas fast as well.

Of note, the V12 mentioned above is small displacement for a V12; considered a very sweet and smooth engine.

Of course V12's aren't really about displacement or power at all; I think that's really a secondary thing. Anyone who thinks "MONSTER HORSEPOWER V12 OMGZ!!!!" knows nothing about engines. V12's are all about incredible refinement and balance, which is why a lot oh high end luxury marques are equipped with them.

how fair is it to compare a I4 turbo to a V8?
yeah the displacement is way different
but the evo still seems to be faster
then he mentioned weight

Just to be sayin somn, but why does he always refer to japanese import cars.....last time i checked european cars are impots too, and they blow american cars out the water ( some of their faster and better ones).....and as far as japanese cars, the ppl in japan do what they always do....they take something and make it better...hence the turbo; its just their thing. And also if you take a four cylinder and make it a much more effecient ( while still producing equal to, or simlilar power) engine over a power hungry V8, who really wants to argue.....its an engineering achievement.....

the public also doesnt realize that it takes more energy to make E85 than it can give off and it has put about 20% of farms into bankruptcy cause of the new high corn prices

i know this for a fact because our farm almost went under because of this.

E85 isnt all that its cracked up to be

Im in Nebraska, which is where E85 is pretty much from seeing as how we always try and fluant ethonal as the next big thing that we engineered with our corn, and its outratgous. Its all totally backfired. E85 started out a way cheaper alternative that could only be ran on newer cars. But now, its like 60 or 70 cents more expensive then premium!
