Bolt Stripped on Crank, Need Help Options

I was changing my timing belt today (7AFE) when it happened. The puller I was using (Autozone loaner, go figure) went sideways when I was removing the crank pully. It trashed the threads on the crank and now the bolt won't go back in. The bolt is now also trashed on the threads though. It would feel good going in but would stop and this is what I ended up with. Also, when I removed the bolt I didn't have to even use a socket it just turned right out by hand.

So now I can only come up with one solution. I would have to re-tap the crank. But in order to do that I'm pretty sure I will have to get that wierd washer off of the stock bolt by I guess cutting it. Then, drill it out to the bigger bolt size that I tapped the crank to. Any suggestions or ideas on fixing this?

goto a dealer and get a new bolt, then get the correct tap and chase the stock threads back and forth some with some heavy oil till the new bolt goes in smoothly.

1st of all, get a new bolt from toyota. chances are the bolt striped before the the crank threads.

if you have a tap set, find the exact size of the old threads and run the tap through them to clean them up . this works 80% of the time when dealing with striped threads.

if that still dosnt work, go to your loacal auto store and buy a heil coil kit.

be sure none of those metal shavings get inside the engine though.

Unfortunately the crank threads did get stripped as a result of that wonderful loan a tool but I will try that. Too bad I gotta wait till Monday to go to toyota. I need to go to work but not now. Is that something you think toyota will have?

you know....you're supposed to use the stock bolt to push against, not thread the puller into the crankshaft. you break the bolt loose and back it out about 1/8th of an inch then pull the pulley forwards, then move it another 1/8th of an inch and pull the crank pulley forwards, ect till the pulley comes off.

you probably have to order it. should get there next day.
just dont cheap out and use something that might work. get the right bolt in there.

metal shavings shouldnt be an issue, because that bolt dosnt go inside the engine or anything.

I didn't try to thread it, but no I did not know that was how to do it. It got into the crank bc it went sideways.

Got it fixed. Had to retap crank and re-thread bolt. Thanks.
