I don't know which battery to get. My brother told me that I needed a better battery. I'm running on Duralast battery. Brand new, just got it like about 4 months ago. Which battery is best for like overall? Including sound, performance, etc.

As alot of people notice, not all of my electrical parts of my car get enough power. They steal each other's power left and right. Like for example, not all my bulbs light up in the back when I press on brake. They all work, but not all of them light up. Another example is when I turn on my headlights, my interior including my gauge cluster lights dimm down by 50%! I need a battery that can give my whole car full power. Or do I need a better Alternator?

well are you running a sound system in your car? anything additional that consumes energy, or is it almost stock? it sounds to me like your alternator isn't functioning properly, could be connection, check for corrosion and what not...

yea, check the battery cables for corrosion and check grounds for poor connections. it sounds more like bad cables than a bad battery, also possibly a poor alternator.

a little lighter. if you dont run an audio system you can get away with a smaller battery, a large motorcycle or atv battery would be able to start the car, even more easily in a warm climate. 300CCA should be enough to start it with room the breathe.

I was having the same problem with my car and it was because my battery was almost dead. Right now Im running a red top optima battery in mine and I definately like it. If you get a new battery, I would opt for the red or yellow top optima.

anyone have problems with their optima battery?
when I first got mine, it went bad in 1 month. now it seems to be dying again..(1 year) I haven't had it tested yet, but my amp meter shows my altinator is charging, and I don't see a drain when the car is off.. i'm guessing the battery went bad... again -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

otherway around on deep cycle, its designed to survive being discharged fully several times and often being nearly discharged with out being damaged.

I was using Yellow... got back from autozone and it was bad again.. so I switched to Red Top... I recommend that to people right off the bat.
1. Yellow Top only offers 2 year warrenty (1 year free replacement) 2. Red Top offers 7 year warrenty (3 years free replacement) 3. Red Top has more cold cranking amps 4. Just from tonight seems to hold more voltage than my yellows. -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

I'm having a similar issue.
My dash lights will dim when I come to a stop, but get brighter when I rev the motor up. I get about 11.8v at idle and 14v when i rev the motor up. Im trying to figure out if its a battery problem, or the fact that I have HIDs, subs and tons of electronics in the car. I replaced the alt with a brand new 80amp one, so i know the alt is not the problem. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

its just everything draining the battery at the same time...i had the same problem in my honda...the head light and dash lights would dim untill i gave it some gas.... also we have 9-14 year old cars and the technology isnt as advanced as the newer stuff to be able to keep the lights from dimming even when iour idle drops.....its just everything draining the battery at once....most of the time its not the altenator...im sure when i do my swap and put in my accecories i will have the same problem......oops did i just slip and let a secreat out??

I have an Optima red top that I got from Sams for $130. I went to O'Reillys and bought a pair of solid brass contacts and rewired them (stock sucks). My car starts no problem, my lights don't dim nearly as bad as they did, the music is cleaner (and yes, it makes a difference). The yellow tops are deep cycle, which would be good as a secondary battery. For a starter battery go red top.
