If I push my front tire top - bottom in opposite directions - grab top with one hand
and botoom with another - - when suspended on jackstands - there is a small play.
The opposite wheel does not have any play. It feels like somewhere in the hub area.
Anlikely lower balljoint - it is solid and boot is intact. Is it acceptable? No effect on driving as I can tell.

Thanks!

Most likely your bearing is bad, and possibly the hub too. This happened to me shortly after I replaced an axle on the driver's side.

And you will definitely want to fix the problem and not just drive on it. It will only get worse.

Check to see if you the axel nut is tight, i had mine get loose because of a pin that was to short.

your axel nut also comes loose when your bearings are bad, a lot of times to codder (sp) pin will strip that cap as well, few signs... there is normally a little little play in it, but i mean little. if you hear any grinding while driving then its definately the bearing and potentially the hub as well.
