just wondering, anyone here hmong? I know alot of hmong people drive toyotas, especially camry, corolla, and celica. i know the majority of hmong people are in minnesota, wisconsin, and california. some other main states they reside are north/south carolina, wisconsin, arkansas, missouri, michigan, colorado, rhode island, mass., florida, and washington. so just wondering if there's any hmong people on this website. i thought it would be kool to meet hmongs from all across the USA! and maybe from the world? i know there's also a lot of hmong people in china (where we once called home!) and france! holla wink.gif

laugh.gif Not alot of people know what Hmong is. Hmong is a ethnicity just like Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. Except our cultures go way back even before the Chinese. We are very common in some states and areas. The most popular ones are Fresno, California and Minneapolis, Minnesota. We are so common on those locations that people don't even ask us if we are chinese or japanese. They just ask, "Hey, are you hmong?"

It's pronounciation is kinda hard to get use to for first time sayers. tongue.gif

It's pronounced: Hm-oe-ng

You have to say that Hm sound kinda fast and into the o and ng.

laugh.gif No, the H isn't silenced. You are saying it the "lazy" way and usually the people who don't know how to say it right pronounces it that way. The letter o isn't a "awh" sound. It's a "oe" sound like Joe. And yes, you do pronounce the Hm sound which is pronounced exactly like the way it is spelled. If you say Mong as in M-awh-ng, people are gonna say, "Huh? Mongolian?" which isn't right. It's Hmong, Hm-oe-ng.

LoL, I see what you're saying. Hm-oe-ng is how Hmong folks say it, which is technically correct. Mong is how everyone else says it 'cause it's easy. Depending on who I'm talking to, I use both.
