I was just curious after reading a thread on here and have wondered this for quite some time...
I notice my 7A motor sits straight up, while a 5S motor like in our Celicas and my mom's old 92 Camry sits at an angle, sort of leaned back. I notice 3S motors also sit at an angle like that. Seems as most 4A motors sit like the 7A as well. Perhaps a motor series thing? but is there any advantages/disadvantages to having the motor sit a certain way? Thanks. its because of how the oil drains from the S block heads, they have to tilt other wise they burn oil because it doesnt drain back right. nothing weird about it, just how its made. theres no inherent advantage or disadvantage either way.

might be because when tilting the engine backwards like that the blocks centre of gravity becomes lower and moves backwards slightly.
packaging reasons aswell maybe it makes the package lower overall and easier to fit under the hood. |

The 5s leans back cause it's cool like that and so you can fit a gigantic turbo on it!
Actually though I have heard it's because of the weight distribution and lower center of gravity, as well as it responds better to the torque kinda like the boxter type motors. -------------------- |
