Well its kind of an intricite problem... not only is my engine occasionally knocking, but when it goes to idle it dies on me, and i have trouble starting it back up... The oil should be good, its not too full or too empty, and was changed around 900 miles ago... The temp guage on my speedometer is past the H, and so im not driving it anymore, but i dont know what this problem is...or how to even diagnose it. I had smoke coming from the head for like 5 seconds, but it hasnt done it since... Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help. Josh Frost. -------------------- I am now a part of the ihavemorethen16gc club! |

Have you abused your engine in the past few days? IF so, you might have thrown a rod bearing. If it's knocking really loud while you're driving... possibly yes.

A buddy of mine had the same thing happen to him and come to find out he threw a rod. I would definately stop driving it and find out before you cause anymore damage!!!

Maybe try get the head and head gasket checked, might explain the coolant error, and I did have similar problems with a Mazda I used have turned out it had a nasty great crack in the head. (I hope it is not that for your sake)

QUOTE(JFrost9 @ Sep 28, 2006 - 8:12 PM) eh, well after checking the little box thingy it blinked twice, then paused, then blinked twice again..which is a code 22, the Engine coolent Temp Sensor Signal... i dont realy know what all this means...and no i didnt abuse my engine... When 22 IS the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor which means that there is a open or short circuit in coolant temperature sensor signal. And since your car idles and dies, which probably means that the sensor is telling your ECU your car is super super super hot and it probably shuts the car down? I don't know but check the sensor. Usually when a car over heats, it dies. Your coolant is needed to keep your car cool at Idle and since the computer is reading no coolant, that's pretty bad. I don't know about the knocking though. You might have killed something while driving around with a bad sensor? This post has been edited by ExSane: Sep 28, 2006 - 8:24 PM -------------------- |

I think the knocking was in my head...Cuz it only occured when it died, which as im reading isnt too unordinary...and it wasnt really a knocking like you guys are accustomed to. So im not worried about that part... Im not too sure how to check the sensor, or where its located, its my understanding its by the EGR valve, but i dont know that the gas temp sensor is the same thing as the coolant temp sensor....I guess ill just take it to a shop cuz it doesnt seem to be something i can simply fix.
