I'm trying to take off my door handles to re paint them, they are badly oxidized. My car has no power locks or windows, anyone know how to do this? my chiltons guide doesn't cover it.

all i know is there is two 10mm nuts inside the door that holds the door handle. i havent got through to wear i get the metal sticks out. when my car got broken into they pry my door handle out. and pops open my car. u tap that first bar and bam it opens. crappy system.

you'll need to remove the door panel first.. you'll see how there are holes on the metal door panel that are covered with clear plastic stickers.. these are holes that allow you to fit a 10mm socket and undo the bolts.
i'm not sure what the next step is but i think you'd pull out the door handle out from the outside and disconnect a couple of things (a rod for the handle and another for the key cylinder).

I got it done, I didn't have to take off the metal panel thankfully. I had to take out the whole lock assembly, the rods clip in need the indoor handle, so you just unclip them, i took the whole handle off to make it easier for me to put the rods back in when im done. Then i took the lock assembly out, theres three screws for this on the side of the door where it latches with the rest of the car. Then you take out a couple of pins holding in the assembly, the two 10mm bolts on the handle and it comes through the inside of the car. its in my garage being painted right now. we'll see how this turns out.
