Tell me you are kidding.
This sounds more like the Art I know: QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 22, 2006 - 5:38 PM) DO NOT BUY AN SAFC. because of the way our fuel and timing controls are combined in the 3s ecu, and safc is not recmended by most 3s owners -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

QUOTE 9. Don't use an S-AFC to do an EMS's job. QUOTE To: Ken Blake Subject: Motor Swap Hey Ken. So a while ago I emailed you about the SAFC-2 and you said not to use it cause I would blow up my engine. I didn't listen, and I blew up my engine about a month ago. Since then my MR2 has been dieing in my grandmother's driveway. Is there anybody in Portland that I could get a new engine from? Also, if I just took out a loan and got a gen 3 rear clip, would that be an easy swap? Sorry that I didn't listen in the first place, but I guess I had to learn my lesson the hard way. Thanks for any help you can give me." QUOTE lagos Registered User search for "safc" on these forums and read everything people have to say about it. an safc is normally NOT recomended for the 3sgte. ![]() |

the problem with the safc is that most people buy it, without even knowing what the hell they need it for. so they end up making corrections, without any way to monitor knock, or a/f and then they have problems. or they take it to their "tuner" who starts taking out a ton of fuel all over the place.
i have had one laying around for a while, so i decided to install it and use it for whatever monitoring functions it has. then maybe play around with adding a tiny bit of fuel in a few spots to allow for more boost. as long as you only add fuel, dont make big corrections, and have a way to monitor what your car is doing, then it should be just fine. the real reason the safc gets a bad rep, is when people try to use it with 550cc injectors and have to take out lots of fuel all over the place. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Using the safc to "monitor" is one thing. However, you indicated that you were going to use it to add fuel. Which is it? If you are not getting enough fuel on the stock ECU, something else is wrong and trying to fix that with a SAFC is....well, lets just say it is shortsighted. In my opinion, you should be diagnosing and fixing the problem the traditional way - troubleshoot, narrow alternatives, make adjustments and fix or replace parts using combination of considerations including cost and probability. I believe I have my run file with my ct26 somewhere. The tail pipe sniffer wasn't working right so there is no a/f reading though - probably wouldn't help you. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |
