I have a stock 8" sub as my front speaker and i want to replace it with a JL brand. The JL 8wo would touch the back of the door shell vs the 6" will have room.
Would it better with a midbass 6.5" or a 8"? Also how would i change from a 8" set up to a 6.5"? Also if you have an aftermarket 8" sub for the front whats your feedback on it? This post has been edited by My2Celi: Oct 12, 2006 - 11:55 PM -------------------- <--- I miss :'' (

If you can find a bracket or make one. Check online audio stores for them like crutchfield. JL's will either be too tight or won't fit and they won't give enough space to breathe. What you need are midsubs, which are shallow subs.

Pioner do a 3 way and componant set that can go into the doors as OEM. you will have to relocate the tweeters behind the door mirrors, but this will look and sound sweet.

thanks for the reply man. i have made up my mind to go with the 3 component JL xr653 and for the back 6.5" ima go with there 6.5w0 sub. If i dont like it ima just make a full back trunk custombox. I have already taken the back seats. I decided to not have a back seat at all or just make the back into a bed or someting.

I have the 8 speaker setup and have fitted Kicker Resolution RMB-8 8" midbass speakers in my factory location. They work great and along with my 10" sub in the trunk adds a very full sound to my soundstage.
If you would like to see my setup or want more details, just look in the stickies in this forum and you'll see my full writeup on installing new speakers into the 8-speaker configuration. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

i've just fitted some Pioneer TSE2096's (3 ways) to replace the stock front speakers.
I had to make my own mounting out of MDF and dowels but they fit ok - i did have to dut a bit off the inner door skin to fit the magents behind. Taking the easy option with the rears and have managed to source some new boxed TSE1675's |

nice. how does it sound so far? i think im going for the jl 3 way system. its gonna be a 6.5" in the front, 4" for the mid and 1" for the tweeter. For the rear speaker i think ima go for the 6.5 sub for the rear speaker. what do u think?

I fit a pair of alpine 8" subs in the front last fall. I had to cut into the door and shape the plastic speaker holder to make it fit but I think it was worth it. I opted for a seperate amp for the subs and got rid of all the factory amps.

TSE2096's are sounbding good - when I bolted the speaker mounts to the door I made sure I had strips of dynamat on the door skin first - they can go pretty loud without any issues.
No-one ever seems to do a write-up/pictures of swapping out the rear speakers so I think I'll do that this weekend. |

I fit JL 8w0's in the front of a '95 convertible. Required a bit of modification for the brackets, but definitely fit depth-wise. Great bump; would have helped if it was dynamatted.

QUOTE(My2Celi @ Oct 18, 2006 - 6:58 PM) no rattle rocket? you know for some reason i water leaks in my door. I think the weather strip on my door is worned out or something and im scared that water touching speaker = shock. I'm getting a little rattle from the right sub but I'm possitive it's the wiring harness that runs over the top of it. I didn't evern think about securing it before I put the door back on. The sub sticks into the door only about another inch so I'm not too concerned about water. |
