i have been reading post that people are using 3sgte rod instead of buying aftermarket rods i was just wondering how much it cost people to buy 3sgte rod and having the 5s crank machined and harden and why people choose that route vs buying aftermarket , was it purely just the cost or is there other reasons as well

assuming your talking about the 2.2L stroker build essentially a 3sgte 2.2L. The crank is always used to make the stroker. 3sgte rods are stronger than 5s rods and generally cheaper than aftermarket rods. Therefor some people may choose to use stock rods as they dont plan to make huge power. But either stock 3s rods or aftermarket 3s rods will require the 5s crank to be machined for them to fit. unless custom con rods are made. which cost even more.

ive seen an mr2 with 750whp with stock rods. not sure how long it lasted but thats alottta power.

accually this is going to be used on a 5sfte , i guess my next qustion is can you use the 3sgte rods on a 5sfte build , i wouldnt see why not but i could be wrong.

well rods in a 5sfte are not really the weak point, its in the head and the pistons that you should be looking to upgrade. but if thats your fancy yeah you could look for some rods
