I have seen a couple of them in members rides on this site, i think jgreening had one in his car, but I believe they were all custom made.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

cool, cool. thanks guys.

jgreening, did you use one of the "readily available" three-gauge din plates for that, and just trim the console piece where necessary?

I actually bought one of those but ended up using some plain plastic I got from a car audio place. The pre-fabbed ones take a bit more custom work to make fit but they would look very cool installed since the guages are slightly angled toward the driver. The dremel tool is your friend but be very careful.

An oil pressure guage and 2 temperature guages - not exactly the ones I would pick if I were building a 6gc that justified $600 worth of guages.

ha, yeah...the defi gauges are sick....

but wa-a-a-ay out of my price range. that's why i'm exploring the homebrew options

i'm really not a pillar-pod kind of guy.

good point about the gauge selection....any car sweet enough for $530 gauges better have a turbo!!

Here are mine, i had them up on the pillar but i got waaay too much attention, everyone wants to race you and cops are always looking at you. I got the din insert from here E gauges I then took a dremmel and to some material from the back of the trim, and also had to cut small half moons to the top of the guages in, 52mm guages are just barely too big for the pocket, but the Insert i bought put them right where they are supposed to be.

thanks man smile.gif You cant see them unless they are on, otherwise they are completely blacked out. I have them wired to my cig lighter so i have the turn my Headlight switch one click. (parking lights) That pic you see where the gauges are on is what they look like in the day, they are perfectly clear.

Edit: Boost is mechanical, oil temp and oil press. are electrical

I really like them, they are acurate and respond quickly. I paid 65 for boost 70 for temp and 82 for oil press.

thanks alot for the input guys, you've helped alot!

BUT....now i've got a pretty tough decision to make....

jgreening and itchy both have their gauges mounted below the radio, eggman you've got them on top....

i assume driving visibility is better with them higher, not to mention the controls for the radio are closer to your hand...

are there any advantages/disadvantages to each position, like wiring or panel thickness?

i'm probably only going to have 2 gauges in the dash, when i eventually install a turbo, the boost gauge will go by the cluster somewhere, probably in the d/s vent.

that is exactly why i mounted them on top. The radio is a little closer but visibility was key. As for an advantage or disadvantage to the wiring, i really dont think there is. you will have to take the radio out to make working easier anyway for top or bottom and the distance is no more than about 2 inches. Its really just personal preference i think tongue.gif

Edit: Im working a deal with someone to get some Defi guages. If that goes through, i might be selling the gauges in the picture... Ill keep you guys posted smile.gif
