hey i was close to buying a few celica gt's, but i got a damn good deal on a 99 mustang v6. ive been wondering tho. which would wine in a race? the celi, or the stang? in a drag race completely stock both cars.dont hate me because i dont drive a celica, i really admire the cars. but all the ones i found were more expensive than i could really afford. but, i'll get on for my next car for sure. gonna be crazy driving a stang in the winter. thanks, erich

I don't hate you, you must have got a really good deal on that mustang to pass up some of the cars on here for sale right now.

Well stock for stock it's hard for me to say. Back in 99 my freind had a new Mustang v6 and we had about the same done mods wise, I was slightly quicker on the start but he gained on me, but we ended up running to 100 pretty much side by side.

speed wise, they are about the same, the celi looks better both inside and out, and more reliable if you get a good one.

k, thanks for the replies! i did get a real good deal on the stang.. its a 1999 v6 5 speed 69k mi for 4300$, so i couldn't pass it up. im in new york and the closest celi's i found were in PA, i drove to look at 2 of them, one was leaking oil like crazy, and the other deal kinda fell through when i saw the mustang.(my dad bought the stang before we closed the deal on the celica) but i loved how both of them drove. if they were the same price, and same mileage, id go for the celica, because of reliability, and rarity, and practicality. thanks, erich

Hey guy, I live in Rochester also. My cousin has a 2001 Mustang V6 with some mods. My Celica is completely stock. We are close in the 1/4 mile. I win on the rare occasion, he wins most, but not by much. The difference shows on back roads such as Lake Road out near Webster Park or Kings Highway near Durand Park. If I let him start ahead, it doesn't take me long to pass him. If I lead off, it's all over. He looses sight of my tail lights after the first 1/2 mile. The Mustang can't handle the curves as well as the Celica. The REAL difference is not in acceleration, it's in handling. Best of luck with the Mustang.

not sure what you meant by "are the person i saw in a video where you hit your brothers car or he hit you..or something like that." and who are you talking to? id like to give a try against that celica in rochester. you'll know its me. its an electric green 99' and key marks down the side. can't stand people that are jealous. right now the stang is in the shop. something is wrong with the clutch or seomthing. i think the guy i bought it from beat on it real bad. i know he did a motor swap. i think he should've replaced the clutch also. whereabout are you located in rochester? you can PM me if ya want.
off topic: how hard is it to do a tranny swap? or clutch swap yourself?

AND HES KINDA GOTTEN THEM TO GROW ON ME.. I LIKE THE 94-98 SVT AND THE EARLY 90'S SVT'S
NO ROOM IN THE ENGINE BAY TO WORK ON THEM THO.

better get used to saying that tongue.gif

it's unfortunate you couldn't have gotten a celi, I'd sooner take one over a mustang anyday, especially a v6... but that's just me.

And I'm completely sure a 108hp ST Celica can beat a 190hp V6 stang.

STFU. Please.

Are you guys f**king serious? I tried to stay out of this thread because it looked like it was asking to be shut down but my god...
My Mom owns a '99 V6 Auto Mustang. That thing is easily the slowest car I have ever driven. My brother drives it to my house for maintenance once a month and we race often. That car couldn't begin to hang with me when I was stock. Now? Forget it - Im not even gonna set myself up to be flamed. That car may have 190Hp (never bothered to look it up) but it drives slow as hell. Also I fix that car constantly as it is consantly having stupid minor problems and now my Mom called me the other day and said she thinks the tranny is going at 90K. And she drives it like a grandma (which I guess she is). POS.
End of story - end of rant
geez.

Oh just so it's not all bad - that car handles better than any other domestic that I have driven. Seems really well balanced. No where near the Celica but still handles good.
