Earlier today, I took apart my cluster to change the CEL bulb (trying to pull codes and I THOUGHT the bulb was burnt). Went out and bought a few packs of 194 bulbs from a local autoparts store to replace them. When I got it apart I found out that there are only 3 194 bulbs in the spedo cluster, and the rest are smaller bulbs. Does anyone know what size of bulb they are? They are the same size as the turn signal ones, if anyones changed those.

After all of this I do not think the bulbs are burnt (at least not all of them, I only have about 3 that light up, "brake"/seatbelt light/door open light) Since I did not have any bulbs to replace the CEL I took one of the lesser importaint working bulbs (from seatbelt) to put into the CEL spot so I could check the codes, BUT once I plugged it into the CEL spot that light did no longer work.

Basically I want to know:

- what are the other bulb sizes in the spedo cluster (other than 194)

- what could be some reasons for the lights to not work. I know the bulbs are good but it doesnt light up

So after another couple of hours playing with 2 sets of clusters and switching bulbs around, as I currently have 2 6gc (a hatch and a vert), and their clusters to use tongue.gif. I have come to the conclusion that there is something wrong in the wiring of the the one car (vert).

I kept track of which bulbs in which cluster worked in which car.

In one car (hatch), both clusters work fine and all 10 bulbs light up. There are a total of 12 lights in the spedo cluster. Airbags, seatbelt, door, batt, oil, abs, e-brake, hi-beam, CEL, cruise. The last 2 lights are the low gas light and the O/D off light. I have a manual and full tank of gas, so I couldnt test the last 2, this applied to both cars.

In the second car (vert) a total of 7 bulbs lit up. I could get every light except the oil, cruise and the CEL light to come on. I do have a 2nd gen 3sgte swap installed, so that could explain the cruise light not lighting up. As well, there is an autometer oil pressure gauge installed, so that would explain the oil light not coming on.

BUT the ONLY light I really need/care about is the CEL, as I need it to pull any engine codes. So...

Does anyone know another way to pull ECU codes W/O using the CEL

or

Does anyone know another way to read the CEL? I was thinking of hooking up a test light straight up to the ECU, and when it would normally send a signal to the CEL it would make the test light go off. Is this possible?

Maybe you should ask me?

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
