WEE! Finally a legit reason to tell my parents why i need to buy a new header. Although I am very excited I am not at the same time, by the fact that I am very poor, and I have little knowledge about sizes. I was told that I can get Corolla headers, as they are both 7afe engines, yes this makes sense. BUT, i needed to modify the downpipe slightly, this would require a shop doing it yes? That costs way too much i would think, or maybe not... ANd also how big in diameter can I go? can i increase my Cat conv and my downpipe as well as the rest of my exhaust at one point and see a significant increase? anybody know? Second thing is where to get them!? i have searched ebay and yes they ahve corolla headers, but will they be reliable?

Please, no "noob" replies... I know these are probably stupid questions and I shouldnt be considering doing it myself if I have to ask these questions, but there is no other way to learn than to ask frown.gif

Thats cool, kinda. But that was the the same reason I got my header. Me and my brother put mine on but we extended the exhaust behind the cat instead of cutting the header. Now I'm in the process of getting a cat-back.

the extension can be done for like 40$ at a monroe, midas ect... shop

to change all of it would cost like 200$...but you won't feel much on the ol'butt dyno...upping the diameter to 2" or 2.25" would be the biggest you'd want to go really

and if you aska noob question you'll get a noob answer...there are other ways to learn...searching first is a critical skill to learn early on in your forum posting days, along with reading the faqs and how-tos...smile.gif good luck

No, I was just wondering if I bought the black powder coated JDM header on ebay, installed that and my downpipe myself, took it to the midas place, could they finish the job for me?

we are talking about the toyota corolla header 1.8 1994 on ebay btw

thats good because i lvoe do it yourselfing! i was thinking about buying a new cat while i was at all of this, and new muffler, maybe just get a pipe clamped on for the time being until i get a new cat. so, if that was going to be the case, i could wait like 2 weeks and get it all welded. I must wait 2 weeks for paycheck to role on in... 90 hour paychecks generally get the job done a lot better than 30 hour 40 hour ones...

No? I just am going to have lots of money, you see its nearing christmas time, and I work at Best Buy, so we are generally going to get now 40-50 hours a week, and Im part time! So my car comes first, even over my girlfriend who has been hounding me for a ring for the past 4 months... I plan to replace the entire exhaust, I'd like to do a load of other stuff while i have the money... if anybody has suggestions of what i should do let me know.

YAY! Since i am going with a corolla header and downpipe, i decided to replace my cat, and muffler while i was at it. smile.gif I am so happy. The muffler should be in monday, I think I spent about 90 on the muffler, 60 on the cat, and about 100 shipped on the header and downpipe. Then about 100 for install from the downpipe on. this muffler shop im taking it to is very cheap in this area, and also does really great work, but nobody is willing to install the header and downpipe for me. Looks like i'll be doing it in his parking lot and pushing it into his shop. LOL. I'll have pics soon.

Anybody know how to get to the bolt near the alternator? I really didnt get under the car tonight as all that has come in is my muffler. Everything else is due in on Friday or later. I get paid next friday, so thats when everything goes on. I just wanted to take the manifold off to make sure it was going to be a swift removal. I have to remove and replace the manifold before the muffler shops will touch it becuase they are afraid of breaking something. NOBODY around here will do it... so stupid, not that I care this seems like a fairly easy job. smile.gif

universal magnaflow catalytic converters can be had on summitracing.com for $50-$150... (they have a couple that are $400+ but most fall in the 50-150 range)
