OK here we go. Right now I dont have a celica (due to an accident it was tottaled) but now im in the market to buy another one. This time around I wanna build a bad ass fast ride ride though. I always loved my old celica st but it was slow as hell. I guess my question is - Whats the best route and cost vs. speed to get the most power.

1. Should I get a GT and have the motor rebuilt and bore out the heads and the whole nine and turbo it?
(what kina HP would I get from doing that)

2. Should I get an ST and do a 3sgte swap from a clip
(if I did that sould I have the engine rebuilt)

3. Which would be faster, stock 3sgte or rebuilt GT turboed

4. Which would be cheaper or atleast more cost effective compaired to power. (and labor)

Keep in mind that a mechinic shop will be doing all of this. Im not really to good with engine and mechanics. Im more about interior and exterior styling. But I do know a mechanic and he said to take the engine out and put the same one back would be around $500 plus whatever I decide to do at the rebuild shop which hes not involved in. He is recomending I do this insted of a swap. What do you guys think. Also keep in mind that a clip is somewhere around $1500/$2000. Should I just spend this money on getting all that I can out of my original motor or is the swap really worth it.

either way you go....start with a GT

what are your driving goals?

quick street?
drag strip?
auto cross?

i mean you need give us some defined goals..

let me just post for everyone else who jumps the band wagon
"ZOMGZ g3T t3H 3SGTE YO!"

once you figure out some goals, what kind of driving and your BUDGET
then we can provide you with accurate and better situational answers


so

Im looking for fast street legal. I wana smoke hondas (dont we all). I absolutly hated loosing to frekin stock cavilers and a haundis with my last car. I wanted to pull the hair out my head.

I dont need a high top speed, more acceleration then anything else. I live in NY so theres limited open road to reach 150mph

Budget would be somewhere around $2500-$3000 depending on what kind of power im getting for it. (Not including the cost of the car)(But including the cost of the clip)

and what the hell is "ZOMGZ g3T t3H 3SGTE YO!"

it means "omg get the 3sgte yo" it's just me being an a$$hole making fun of ricers like hitcachi up there wink.gif...jk bro, don't worry about it

for your purposes i'd suggest a mild turbo setup

start with a GT celica (find the lowest milage possible) and then work on a turbo set, if you read the stickies/FAQ and run a search "5sfte" you'll find a good amount of information on how to do it and such..
major points of this setup will be

3sgte turbo + manfiold
Greddy E-manage
Intercooler + pipes
Injectors
Clutch

those are just a few highlights, but the FAQ and stickies will give you a much better idea....you'll have great torque and potential to run low 14s to mid/high 13s if you set it up properly

2500-3000 grand really isn't going to be enough to do a full rebuild AND turbo....but it is enough to produce a nice, reliable and SAFE turbo setup

3SGTE is a good to go if you plan to do an engine swap project on your car! Especially if you have an auto trans. and want to do an auto to manual swap with a 3SGTE.

But if you have manual trans. and want to rebuilt a 5SFE plus put a turbo in it, it's also good, I know Presure2 is one of them that makes the 5SFTE and the results are really good. It's pretty fast for a 5SFTE and especially he show his dyno and vids of his car in action.

3SGTE and 5SFTE are both really good engines in my opinion.

Oh really, how much would a turbo go for incuding EVERY part I would possibly need. (not including labor) And can I turbo the engine with oh say 1K miles on it with out rebuilding the engine or doing any prep work to it, or will it blow up?

Yea 5th gen is out of the question. I've already fallen in love with the 6th gen. Oh man, those curves get me excited lol.

i say grow urself a mullet and buy a trans am.........


i think u need to read how a turbo works and wut are the pros and cons on going turbo. like you said u arent very knowlegable on teh engine aspect on cars so, before u do any of those i suggest you go research, cos alot of things can go wrong with force induction.jus my 2 cents

^^ x2 you dont have enought money to do either, 3s or 5st. Especially if you dont do the work yourself. I did my own swap and just to get the car running it took 5k+ also, im not sure if you could make either one of those street legal. Your best bet with that kind of money is either buy shin's car, or get a gt engine and do basic bolt ons, that would definetly feel faster than an ST.

I already have a mullet and my trans am is currenty on blocks in my front lawn. Cant get the wheels on cause the grass is over the fenders ya'll....... Yea but pretty much thats what im doing now is learning before I'm doing. Not completly but enough to get me started and then I learn as I go along.

well goodluck on ur decision, but from wut im reading i would agree with jus buying shin's car, but with that u wont learn as much as u can if u did the mods yourself. so if u want to learn alot, u save a buttload of cash and build ur own engine. imo if ur gonan build teh 5s motor u have to take teh engine out so jus go with the 3s and sell ur 5s for extra cash.
