My how to: install HID for JDM Projectors, my experience installing HID Options

new cutoff pictures please!! what if you guys played with the focal point on the D2S bulb? match up the part that glows with the part that glows on the H1 bulb. the cutoff should be nicer because the light is emitted at the same angle. i want projectors!!!!

just to add...

it was difficult find a good spot to mount the ballasts. i had AC lines, ABS lines, etc. that were all in the way.
the manual says to install them in an area away from intense heat (engine).

then i found the ideal spot on the frame rail bracket without having to drill new holes.





they mount right onto the headlight bracket on the frame rail adapter.

I've been running HID's in my projectors for a couple of years now. Per this thread, I've always used the plastic ring that came with my HID bulbs but at any given point in time, one bulb will sit properly and the other wants to sit crooked in the housing. I've decided to give these a try.



They're adapters that hold the H1 HID bulb for a Honda, and make it sit properly like a regular H1 bulb. For only $7, it's not a huge loss if they don't work, but I suspect they'll work better than trimming the plastic ring that came with the HID bulbs. I should have them next week and I'll get them fitted ASAP.

Will do. Turns out the Honda guys have been having the same issue as us, mounting H1 HID's into place of regular HID bulbs. So they came up with these which are now mass produced and readily available all over eBay for anywhere between $4-10. I have my questions on exactly how the bulb fits into these securely, but they look like they'll center the bulb up and emulate a halogen H1 well enough.

I received the adapters today. Test fitted with a broken old H1 HID bulb that I have sitting around, and I think that these will be a much more elegant solution to fitting HID's into our projectors. I took some comparison pictures of a regular halogen H1 bulb with the OEM bulb adapter so you guys can see what the OEM solution was compared to these adapters with an HID bulb.








Unfortunately I did not get a chance to install them today, since it's 4 degrees F outside and I have to leave for work in 8 minutes. I'll do my best to get them installed in the next few days and get pictures for you guys. So far, pending installation of course, I would highly recommend these over the plastic ring for HID installation.

Got these installed today. Still waiting for my fingers to thaw out but hey, it's done and over with.

Verdict: They will work but require slight modification to the HID bulb. H1 bulbs have small tabs on them to align the bulb. H1 HID bulbs have these too, but the design of our headlight housing allow the bulb to only go in one way, meaning the tab on the HID bulb won't line up where it's supposed to.

Note the tab at the base of the bulb. There's one on each side. These must be removed.





I had to continue working to take the tabs off after I took that picture. They need to be completely flat.

After you have removed those tabs, the X tabs need to be aligned vertically on the bulb. It's a tight working space but after some careful maneuvering, you can get the bulb and adapter fitted into place and get everything put back together.

Crappy picture but if you stare at it long enough, you can start to see everything.



I actually found this install easier than trying to hold the plastic C rings in place as the original how-to shows. Well worth the $7 I spent, and these can be found for as little as $4 shipped.
