A lighter flywheel does a couple of things. When you are shifting the revs come down quicker. I shift pretty quick with my stock shifter and when I let out the clutch on a fast shift the engine revs have not droped down to match. Other thing is the engine can spin up slightly faster getting a small acceleration gain. The lighter flywheel is not really added to reduce the overall weight of the car. It does make the shifts a little rougher too.

btw... A really good dump before you get in the car is the best way to loose weight.
