Ok. So I bought this double-din stereo for my celi from eBay japan. It's a Panasonic AV150. I've already done a google search but couldn't find out anything on this stereo. I like how it lights up green (like the stock dash), front A/V inputs and is still almost factory looking...
Anyway, i need some help in figuring out some things with this headunit. and here are the questions: 1. The pic below shows a Sub Code and CD-C connector. What is a Sub Code connector and what is it for? I hope this is for plugging in a GPS system. That'd be cool... 2. I'm looking to add a CD changer where I can operate it from the headunit and not have to meddle with remotes or anything. So would any MP3 CD changer work? Below, there are 3 connectors: AM/FM Antenna, FM DET (wire with an RCA plug), RGB-In (looks like a S-Video input). 3. I noticed the radio ranges from 76 MHz to 90 MHz, which (not suprisingly) is the range they use in Japan. Anyway, after a quick google search, there was a New Zealand classified thread of a guy selling this stereo and it mentions that an 'FM Extender' can be added to reach higher levels of frequency (ie 90+ Mhz). Where can i find this 'FM Extender'? 4. What plugs into the FM DET wire? 5. What is the RGB-In for? a DVD player? 6. What's this, a microphone plug? Sweet! Now my passengers can sing karaoke! Is that what passengers do in Japan? hahahaaah.. ok nvm, you don't have to answer that Below are the inputs and outputs for external devices. 7. Most are pretty straight forward but what is the 'V-CNT' for? 8. What is the RM-Out for? 9. When i press the 'D-M' button on the upper left corner, the screen goes into AM/FM Radio mode and shows "DM 1620". Does anybody know what that means? I'm guessing it has something to do with a navigation system. Any help would be greatly appreciated... CD changers are usually proprietary by brand if you want to control them with the head unit. Universal CD-changers use an FM-modulator.

Universal CD-changers use an FM-modulator. i figured.. i had this one old cd changer that had the same connector. also, on another deck with cd changer controls had the exact same connector as the one labelled "Sub Code" above.. i'm guessing that's a CD-changer connector too..? -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

2. ok.. i figured out that my CD-C connector is called an M-Bus.. so now i guess i'll need to find a cd changer with that same 'M-Bus' connector.

Sorry, can't answer your questions... in fact, I have questions for you!
1. How does the AV150 fit into the Celica... does it look stock? 2. The screen is analog right? Or is it TFT? -------------------- |

Ok, lets see how much help i can be...
1. Not sure 2. already answered 3. The only FM extender ive heard of is within Sirius Radio...not only that, but why would you want one? 4. 5. Im pretty sure this is for color. I know RGB stands for Red Green Blue, and this normally changes a tv from black and white to color. However, there are normally other set ups that can provide color, and this is just an option. 6.mic plug 7. I think V-CNT is a video Carbon Nanotube plug, i could be way off, this ones a total guess. If this is what it is, then it is a plug that enabled a almost "high def" mode on the screen.... 8. its a radio Modem plug maybe? The only RM i can think of based on the plug type. 9. Digital modulation maybe? Which would be a private frequency probably having to do with GPS... Most of these are guesses or some kinda educated guess as to what they could be, so please dont bash me if im totally off on something, just trying to help or get the minds rollin. Or is it TFT? i still have the stock double-din stereo until my new alarm/starter gets installed in mid-november. i assume it'll stick out but i'm gonna try and see if i can have it shift inwards a bit so that it'll be flush with the stereo bezel. the screen is a little old-looking. nothing like the new LCD screens in today's market. is analog the one with a picture tube? well this one isn't so i'm assuming it's TFT then.. Josh. 3. well, i usually listen to local radio (believe it or not) on mornings to school for the local stuff... then i listen to my usual songs every other time when i drive.. also, i found this thing on ebay uk where an FM Band expander can be added. it's a little module that goes inline with your antenna wire and headunit with 2 wires (12V + and ground). basically, it boosts the signal up 20Mhz. so if the stereo reads 85Mhz, it'll actually be tuned to 105Mhz. the link is here. 8. i was looking at some aftermarket cd-changers and some of the DVD changers have this external Remote Eye in which can be lead to the front of the car and comes with a wireless remote for operating the changer like a stereo. i was kind of thinking it would be that too for the RM-Out plug.. but i'm not too sure. was that hard to install? I might want to get that. I'm getting a new head unit and speakers this weekend. Would it be worth the money and time for install?

1: Q-bit Subcode
Q-bit subcode is the term for the information on a compact disc that holds the track number, track length, and time in track. Every music disc has special subcode control information encoded along with the music information. The Q- bit subcode has several modes, which distinguish the type of information the code carries. When you play a CD you cannot access the subcode information directly. All CD players have circuitry that can decode and use subcode data. Some of this Q -bit subcode is displayed on the front display of a CD player. This information, such as time in track and track number, is useful for determining what song is being played, and how far along the song is. There is other useful information in the Q-bit subcode, such as absolute time in the CD. (from http://www.ee.washington.edu/conselec/A95/...oject.htm#qcode ) hope thats the right sort of thing. 8: RM Only thing I can think of is a remote of some discription, however these normaly have RMT? any way im not much help here. Any one know what it came in as standard as it looks like OME. Might be a clue to finding out what all the bits do, probably from one of thos nutty little japanese vans. |
