Tranny works like a dream but when im shifting down from 5th, it feels almost like the shifter is stuck in something and i have to apply a little more force then usual. There is no misshift, or sounds or anything, just the feel of it being stuck in something.

Is this something to worry about? Maybe just the shifter bushings being in bad shape? Im getting a TWM shortshifter installed in a week or so which will hopefully solve the issue.

Do you rev match when you downshift?

not sure what you mean but no matter the rev, shifting down from 5th is always harder then any other gear.

Even if standing still, without the engine on, shifting down from 5th feels like it "hooks" into something.

okay im reviving this thread as i still have the problem but no answer to why.

When ever I want to leave 5th gear, its like the gearstick is stuck in 5th and i have to apply alot more pressure to get it out then on any other gear.

What may be the cause and what can i do about it?

Ill also add that the problem has not gotten worse since i first posted, but its still annoys me a little.

i have the same issue with 1st-2nd, but i just think part of it was my shifting like i would pull it toward me and back instead of just back. Im not saying thats whats wrong with yours cause its still not as easy as the other gears

check your links on the tranny and on the shifter to make sure they are in good condition,

When Chris asked about Rev matching...say i'm in 5th gear going 55mph ~3k rpm. When i down shift from 5th to 4th the RPM will be higher in 4th gear so you have to rev match, this is done by blipping the throttle(clutch in) when shifting between 5th to forth. This makes for a smooth transition

QUOTE
The goal of this shifting technique is to maintain equilibrium between engine speed and wheel speed so the drivetrain doesn't jolt while downshifting.

Ah yeah, ive done some looking around and learned what revmatching is. I dont do it however so it cant be the cause of the problem smile.gif

About the links on the tranny and shifter, is it difficult to check them? Do i have to take out the tranny or touch it at all?
And suggest i check them, what should i look for and what might be the problem with it?

it could be your synchros going bad. synchros line up the gears and my friend had the ones going in his evo and that damn things was a SOB to shift sometimes... i know replacing those is no cake walk and if u do so to go w/OEM ones or carbon fiber ones (haha yes yes carbon fiber is really the better choice... lets avoid the honduh jokes... lol) laugh.gif
