QUOTE(laff09 @ Dec 6, 2006 - 1:01 PM) Lesson #1 dont let friends work on your car, because there are always problems and you dont want to be the bad guy by asking them to make it right. I know what you mean, but at the same time, the biggest concern of having your car being worked on is by someone you trust. I know he wouldn't do anything to it, it may be a bad luck of something or weird coincidence. Anyways, my car has been working normally for the most part. yupp, for the most part. the trans still feels like it cannot shift on its own. I believe it is an electrical problem, because the body shop was working on the underhood. Not a mechanical/tranny, because when it works it does really work for a good distances. Do you guys think it may be the moisture of when they were wetsanding and prepping the hood? Thats the only explainable reason for me to believe it is maybe a wire or sensor. Could it be throttle sensor, speed sensor, tubes? still trying to figure it out but I can't cus when my car works normal, I don't know what to check. Most importantly, I can't find a consistent factor or variable when the car starts messing up, its almost random. If I could find that then I'm sure it will be solved. -------------------- 94 Celica GT

man still having problems that sucks
well 3 choices you have first make sure you have plenty of transmisison fluid, my friend got painted and had simiar problems like us, turned out he was really low on tranny fluid if that aint the case, have a tranny mechanic check the tranny 3rd take the car to the dealership and have them run the OBD diags on it i know those last two choices sucks but it can't be as bad as the condition of the car's performance, mine was almost undriveable when it was acting up wishing you good luck man -------------------- |

Update: Car still acting normal for the most part. However, some weird thing happened the last time it acted up. When it messes up, the speedometer usually drops all the way down and stays down, the last time it messed up was three days ago, the car went out gear felt like neutral as I was going and then it corrected itself. Now, the weird part is, normally when it messes up the speedometer does not move at all and stays at 0mph, but it dropped down then recorrected itself and went back up to the normal MPH. Hmmm, is the car trying to correct itself slowly?

my guess is a short caused by a liquid. you said it shorts when its cold normally, and then works when its warm... would the liquid be vaporizing then condensing when the engine cools? also the sign that its slowly getting better kinda says the liquid is slowly working its way out, probably when its vaporized. Def an electrical problem. I would say getting your codes scanned would be the first step if your going to bring it anywhere. i know there are some places that will do it free with their estimates (at least in my city there is).

I would take it toyota and have a master tech look at it,they will only charge like 30 buck to run the overdrive light.other then that from what I am reading the wire harnes is the problem.Spend a little money bring it to toyota and go from there. From what you been saying everyone has said the same thing.I am going to say something wrong with the wire harnese wire was put on wrong and fry something.scan tool will only tell what code it giveing which is the first step I beat it going to say soliend 1,2,3 which leads to someone said let a tranny tech look at it.
being honest take it to a toyota master tech and explain what happen and go from there. |

I think this is hard issue everone has said what the problem could be and there all right.I think you need to go through one problem at a time.
your saying there a shift problem which can only be coming from the tranny area which mean check ever cable and wire that runs to the tranny.see if there any break in the wire. Also you said speed level does not move.there a speed sensor on the tranny that control that.Example to answer your two week ago.I put in a used tranny from japan shop it was test and warranty I install the tranny and one week later it went on me.I put another tranny from the same place no problems now.from what you say with it going in neutral I had the same problem with my oringal tranny and then one day tranny just would go in reverse.I think it sign of the tranny ready to go.check fluids and see if there enough in the tranny get the code to find you what they are. second this could be a wire problem said by the last person where there is so many place to look where it would be hard to explain where it is.it could be the wire harnes it could be the computer it could be a fuse going off.where everything could be fine and one drop of water on a wire that is cut or broken the car will act werid. third you have to understand this is a 10 years old car or less mean who ever paint it could have paint over a good ground connection or bend the wire and put them back in and there your problem. To finish off take to someone who know something about car I think personnal this is something that a master toyota tech should look over the car or spend money rebuild the celica or get another one. I hope this help and but judge where you live it burea right is there a toyota place to take it to. well good luck and hope you solve the problem |
