i've got a whistler euro948 radar/lidar detector which does a great job, but the sound alert is way too quiet if the music is turned up loud (oh yes, i like my music high quality and high volume). so i either have to drive slow with my music loud or drive fast with music quiet so i can hear the detector in case the cops are targeting me. so the question is:
is there any way to make a cell-muting bridge for a detector (i think ALL lidar jammers have this option factory ready) so it would mute my audio system when it's detecting something? -------------------- You say you love flowers but you pick them, You say you love animals but you eat them, I fear the day you'll tell me you love me.

what is the model of your head unit?
if the head unit you have has the cell mute feature, it should be a simple wiring job to get it to work -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

the head unit has a cell mute feature of course, that's not the issue - the issue is that the detector doesnt have the interface. point being does anybody know how the cell muting interface works at all, aka what kind of signal does it send to the head unit? because then maybe i could pick apart the detector and hotwire the speaker wire to send some kind of signal to the head unit too (to make the music stfu). but unfortunately i never had a real car phone in my hands so have no idea what's it all about.

in most cases it sends either a positive or a ground signal to the headunit, depending on the model. You'd find that information in the head unit's manual.

in my HU's manual it says: TEL MUTE WIRE (brown): connect to the terminal that is grounded when either the telephone rings or during conversation.
that means i have to supply it with ground signal to make it stfu... right? grrr, it would be easier if it was the other way around. -------------------- You say you love flowers but you pick them, You say you love animals but you eat them, I fear the day you'll tell me you love me.

all you need now is any (negative or positive) output from the radar, if there is one. You said you needed an interface right? does it have a plug at the back for that interface? if so you may find a signal, either positive (and hopefuly 12v) or negative. If you do have a positive 12v, use a relay to invert it into a ground. If you have negative, connect it to the HU's brown wire

the problem is that the detector does NOT have any kind of interface - would be a piece of cake in that case. all i know is that lights are blinking and the speaker is shrieking when it's detecting something. so i guess i'll have to pick it apart and try to steal power of one of the led lights... is that a smart thing to do... picking apart an expensive detector that might refuse to work after my screwing around with it?

do not tap power from the LED or anywhere else in that device, you will damage the unit and it will not work for your application (LEDs are 2-3volts, relays are 12volt). also relays draw 250mA more or less, which is way more than the little transistors inside the circuitry of the device can handle.
If the unit doesn't support the feature no matter what, chances are there isn't much you can do. -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

Since I can't hear my cobra with the music up so i put it on the very left bottom corner of my windshield just a few cm above the dash and hid the wires behind the dash and even when i can't hear it, it's in my ?perifial? vision so i see the LED band anyways. It's just my little 2 cents
