Well I want a GSX cuz I'm sucka for AWD Turbo coupes but I've always like the 6th gen celica as well but from a performance point of view it seemed like the the GSX was the obvious choice until I found out about the GT-Four that never made it to the states. So which do you think is better and why? There's a GSX running 6.97 in the quarter mile so what do you guys think?

any car is just a shell with a motor, any car has the ability to run any time. it depends on how much money your willing to spend. buy w/e you like more. if u wanna go fast for cheap id go dsm. but if you reliability/speed id go 3sgte.

that eclipse looks like its rwd to me... anyways, id take the gt-four over the gsx anyday for rarity and you get toyota reliability. both great looking and have the potential to be fast cars though.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

GSX, because if you have to ask, you know what you're going to buy. Just go buy it and have fun with it. Maybe later you can come back to the Celica, but you really have to have a passion to mess with the 3sgte Celica. And unless you want a 4th or 5th gen, there's little to no chance of AWD. GSX isn't bad. It's heavy, but it's cheap and can be really fast. Great car to learn how to mod on.

I love the look of both cars. The have a widebody look to them, and both can be made extremely fast.

I sold my 260 whp 97 GS-T Eclipse for a bone stock 95 GT-S Celi. 5200$ in repairs in one year? Including 2 transmissions?

'nuff said.

Not to defend DSM's but crankwalk was fixed after 97'. Aside from that my friends haven't had any problems. One has 450whp the other has 265whp.

I don't think it fair to pan dsms when we are talking about modified ones. How many people have had issues with their cars at one time or another.

Really not sure about that, not enough to start an argument about it anyway. But none of my problems were crankwalk-related. As for a modded car, it wasn't much. KYB AGX's, FMIC, boost controller (14 psi, stock is 9), 2.5" cat back, high flow cat, upgraded turbo.

I would say that one of the pros of the DSM's is how easily you can mod them. And there's a boatload of parts. And the leather is oh so comfy smile.gif

there is really no proof that they fixed it in 97. thats only 2yrs after the 1st 2g's came out, and at that point, most people didnt know about that problem. only thing thats known for sure is that its most common on the awd version . gs-t's dont seem to get it as often, and automantics almost never get it.

they are very nice looking cars, with an amazing aftermarket support and lots of potential. problem is, the build quality is very poor. the car will turn you into a full time mechanic, trying to fix little issues that pop up. if your the type of guy that normally goes to local shop, then you wont be able to keep up with the repair bills for any dsm.

" DSM's. turning average people into mechanics since 1989 "

you can mod a 3sgte just as easily as you can mod a dsm or any other turbo car. exhaust, boost controller, ecu, fmic, upgraded turbo... its the same sequence in any turbo car. More boost=go faster. Its just cheaper to do it to a dsm due to cheaper parts. Why is this? Oh yes, greater supply of parts due to greater demand, due to dsm parts breaking all the time. I have worked on my share of 4g63's in the past, and every time all i see is failure due to poorly built parts. The thing i love about dsm's is how you can take a $1000 first gen and make it run 12's for under $5k if you do the work yourself. The thing I love about my st165, is not needing to work on it at least once a week, even while being relentlessly abusive to it. And how my car's chassis was designed for motorsports, not just with the thought of "how cheap can we build a turbo 4cyl car that will sell and go fast". The tactic Dodge and mitsu have paired together to accomplish since 1989, until the curent srt4. What do srt4's and dsm have in common? Mitsu turbo technology, a poorly built intereor body and chassis

6-bolt 1st gen block = no crankwalk
bought the car for under 2k - put 3k into it and had near 400 hp
it had it's small problems from time to time... mostly w/ the a/f tuning, but other than that - it was fun, reliable, and a beast on the streets ... i'll probly get another one 1 day

more power to ya man. I have a softspot for dsm's they were the first imports i ever started tinkering with, but overall, i choose my lil gt-four. Mostly because I am more interested in driving throught the canyons. But whenever i roll up to a first gen dsm, i never know what to expect... Either they are retarded fast, or just plain retarded. I will be the first to admit, im barely beaten on the streets, including many dsm kills, but I sometimes wonder if i should race a certain dsm... kindasad.gif If it comes down to the looks of the car,
1g dsm<1g gt-four(all-trac), 2g dsm<2g gtfour(alltrac)
