Currently, my car is in the shop for a check up. The '97 GT has about 96,000 miles on it and my mechanic has taken a look and suggested the following:
Replace Timing belt (And some other components in this area) Replace Spark Plugs Replace Fuel Filter Replace Belts & Hoses (Look kinda worn) Replace PCV Valve Does this sound right? Is there anything he is missing or should not include? Just want to get some opinions before I lay out the cash. |

Thanks Tara. Actually, the mechanic has been working on our family's car for sometime now. He's always been honest with the work he's preformed so I trust him with the Celica. The only things is that I hope he is replacing stuff that doesn't need replacement, i.e. fuel filter/timing belt only because toyotas are supposed to last a looong time!

Yea that sounds about right. And youd rather replace it then have to fix it later. Althought you still have a few miles left. I would defiently replace them before 110k. But thats just my opinion.

you may as well have him change the timing belt because hes going to have to be doing stuff in that area anyway...

like yep said. A factor here is labor and Because of the posistion of the belts, you might as well have them fix it all at once. Rather then pay them to get to them 2x.

If he's gonna be doing the belts and hoses I would have the water pump done. They aren't that expensive but they do go bad and most of the cost to replace them is the labor to get the belts off and back on. Also if he's going to change the fuel filter and plugs you might want to have the injectors cleaned. They probably have some carbon built up on them. |

nice thing about the 5s-fe is that it is a non-interference engine so even if your timing belt breaks, your engine wont self destruct

LOL. See, I bought my car at 102k and now it's at about 113k. Well...I haven't replaced crap except oil change, tranny flush/tune-up, and spark plugs. But a full tune-up shpuld include...
Timing Belt Fuel Filter Oil Change Air Filter (Unless you got intake in which case you know how often you shoudl clean it) PCV Valve Cap Rotor Plug Wires That should do it. I guess I'm planning on getting some new wires soon. But I don't really care...as soon as I'd replace all that crap, it would need to be replaced again cuz I beat on my Celi and she likes it...so there! -------------------- 95 Toyota Celica GT
