The Type X is definitely a far superior subwoofer compared to the type R but it would need much more power than you currently have to get it going.
Also make sure that your amplifier is stable to 2 ohms if you want to run 1 of the typeR or typeX subwoofers. Running two would not be a problem as you can wire it to 4 ohms.

I would personally get the typeX and then upgrade the amplifier when I have money down the line. Otherwise, typeRs are good too for going loud but they are in a different league in terms of sound quality. Therefore, if you do not wish to spend any more money, get the two typeRs or I might even suggest a better amplifier + one typeR. An extra subwoofer doesn't give you much of a gain anyway(it is not double in volume).

Wouldnt call it pointless, just depends whether you need it. Some people want it to utilise their amps better, some for install options etc etc.

Having two subwoofers instead of one to your existing amp will give you a 3db gain

If you double the power(lets say you installed another amp and doubled power) and double the cone area(2 subs) , you get a 6db increase.

Perceivable double in volume(what you hear as a double in volume) is 10db. Therefore you decide if it is worthwhile for you

if u plan to upgrade the amp sometime id go with the type x. but with your current amp theres no way u could power the type x.and the sub will probably distort when you try to turn it up. I like ported boxes.

i think ima go with the two type R's

and i was thinking a ported box would be good, i hear thsoe make them sound louder to some extent.

now......will my one amp have enough power to run both subs?
the amp has 1200 watts max power, and runs at 500 rms....i think that should work fine....on a 4 ohms set up

if it dosent work fine....then im need to find a cheap powerfull amp

two type r's... i have a sealed POS box right now, but will be going ported also soon... im not too sure about a sony amp to alpine speakers though... things have to be matched right, and although that would sound decent, sony is horrible for car audio.

are you dedicted to theese woofers? az that web-shop you can buy for that price better woofers, i think.

try this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4938.html#

It is nice! audiobahn is good at bass biggrin.gif

and if you buy 2 of them you will shake with this combinantion your house, not only a car biggrin.gif

and I found something from Europe to give tha right power to them. The Ground Zero GZPA1.6000 oz GZPA 1.8000 could be the right choice to this question smile.gif

as far as boxes go... depending on the application depends on the box. sealed boxes will give you an incredibly better sound but the correct installation of a ported box will give you a larger "thump", if you plan on making the boxes yourself, i would never suggest trying to make a ported box unless you have been making them for years like I have, in order for a ported box to work to its full potential, it must be tuned to the manufacturer's specs, sealed is usually your best bet... smaller sealed box = better response, less chance of blowing a cone, but horrible really low end frequency reproduction, larger sealed box = slower response, greater chances of blowing a cone (not really a problem if you rid your system of large amounts of distortion), but will hit those really low bass notes like a pro but a little sketchy on the higher bass notes... good luck, like the post has pretty much all said, just depends on your preference and what you are looking to get out of it

building your own box? go sealed! sealed gives you a punchier base (better for just playing loud music) the ported box gives you the oportunity to drop lower base mor effectively but get it wrong and you will be driven mad by port noice (the air being rammed out of the prot will whistle a bit like grandad from the simpsons with a megaphone!)

What are you? a bass junkie or do you just want loud music? loud music will suit one single 12inch set up to pick up from 50hz. this is the way I have mine done and it suits most types of music (as I have no taste I like a little bit of everything music wise) at most volume levels.

also to answer the original question, if your not going all out, dont bother with the type X! the Type R is brilliant. (again its what I use)
