Okay, so in a turoing the 7afe thread here there was a mentioning of taking a honda engine (b16) exhaust header and removing the flange and placing a 7afe flange on it so we can have a cheaper turboing header... SO my question is this, if we can do that to the exhaust cant we also do it to the intake? Making the intake manifold larger? Like buy a b16 intake manifold, cut the flange off and weld a 7afe flange on it? Wouldnt it work? and if it would would it even be worth the money/time spent?

No... the intake is not like the exhaust. Also... what beneficial reason would there be? "Making it larger" isn't neccesarily one...

I toyed with several ideas on how to make the "fe" series intake manifolds better. Your best bet is just a larger throttle body. That's about it. With the FE head, you want the longer runners for the torque. If you cut them down, you would need it flow tested and custom made to see if it works right. If you changed the size, that wouldn't really do to much. Only thing that really matters a lot is the length. The manifold on the 5sfe, and I think 7afe, are good for what the motors are. And I'm not bashing on the advantages of an FE motor, just saying round hole deserves a round peg.

So to increase the throttle body size you would need to? A) get a larger TB and B) Make a larger hole? correct? And htne there wouldnt be much of a reason to do so because obviously the engine is getting plenty of air.

You might want to just get another 7afe throttle body, and have it board out. You can probably get another 5mm out of it at least. Check for shops in your local area that do performance parts/machining.

reading all this - makes a conclusion in my head what Toyota Engineering team who designed the 7AFE engine knows nothing about the thing what they do - and practicly anyone can make it better... C'mon guys - trying to squizze somes extra Hp from the Econobox might in the end cost you twice more then just turboing it...

You are looking at the wrong places to get the power from it...

pleanty of air.. now you need plenty of fuel... now you need how to control your fuel... and etc etc... Just look at the Edo profile - he had lots of things done to his 7AFE ported / polished head, balanced everything, full exhaust / intake done - and ? The conclusion of this was extra 15hp?? Now conver these HP to the $ and you will see how much they costed... Trying to make N/A powerfull - is more knowlegeble thing and more cotly when just going turbo..

And 7AFE as N/A isnt the engine you should really be working on...

with the minimal work i've put into my 7AFE its alot more fun to drive, its not a bad engine. its just not meant to be what its not meant to be. its designed to be relatively effeicent and have a long lifespan.

I second this. I have a 5sfe, and it's fun. My buddy Miro has a ST Celica and he won the regional Solo2 championship in the STS class. He only has intake, header, and exhaust. But he's got suspension stuff too. None of the FE series is going to make a good drag car platform, but they can still be fun. Anyone who says differently is just trying to dissapoint you.

Unfortunately, this is true. +1

oh i have tons of fun frive my St. Its just i want to make it just a little more fun. My parents say absolutely no to a turbo and tell me if i buy a turbo they will stop paying for college. frown.gif lol. So I guess I dont turbo, or atleast until I move out. However Suspension is something my dad is for and thats always something that can make the ride more fun.
