I'd do some research before making any decisions. A 4A-GZE isn't turbocharged; It's supercharged.
I love my 4A-GE personally. I'd really do some research though before committing to a swap. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Not recommended for a GT model Celica. There would be no sense into downgrading yourself to a 1.6 engine when you have other options such as a 3sge (non vvt-i), BEAMS Redtop 3sge, and a 3sgte. A 3s would be more suitable for the GT because it will directly bolt in. If you wanted a 1.6l 4age engine, you might as well sell or trade in your GT and get an ST model. Where as the ST will make the 4age engine a direct bolt in. And take into consideration of doing an engine swap, you might need more than just an engine so do your parts research. And also consider of making a wire conversion harness for the new engine. I'd advice you to get a hold of Dr. Tweak from Phoenix Tuning to make the harness, he already knows how to make them. And ask as much questions about doing a 3s swap as possible, there are alot of people here that can help you out This post has been edited by netrata: Dec 5, 2006 - 12:15 AM -------------------- |

Get a compression test on that engine if possible. I'm not sure the numbers though, but i'm pretty sure there's someone here that knows it. Anyways, If it's all good, I would take it since it's pretty much everything you need for the swap. You might have to modify a few things here and there but it's pretty much a straight forward swap aside of putting in the intercooler components and wiring harness. There should be a post or sticky somewhere regarding the 3sgte engine. If not, you can find some tech sources on the celicatech.com website regarding the engine. Also, since you mentioned it has a 5 speed tranny, the engine more than likely came off of a MR2 turbo. So this involves a bit more modifications to the tranny, possibly the tranny cables, and the driveaxles to make it work out on the celica. You still can use the stock GT tranny on the 3sgte, but if you feel that you need to up the boost for more power, than think about modding the MR2 on the celica or get a hold of a V6 camry solara tranny. Whoa! man you gotta slow down. youre getting way ahead of yourself. First off, the 3s is not entirely a direct bolt on, even with the GT. It will definitely be easier if you use the same tranny and cables but you still have to worry about having your wiring done, some form of custom exhaust work, if you want to keep a/c you have to switch over the pump...etc. there are many variables. Which leads me to my second point, you should really look into buying a clip apposed to just the engine itself with a harness. You will be missing many things that are neccesary for the swap, and it will cause you headaches. And No, a 1jz will not fit, its a 6cyl rwd motor which will require huge custom fabrication which will cost a lot of $ long story short, wont work You should get familliar with the stickies at the top of the forums, there is plenty of research there. About 95% of your questions will be answered there. what ever your decide on, good luck with it! This post has been edited by eggman40: Dec 5, 2006 - 1:38 AM |

x3, read the stickies, search all that kind of stuff. there is a really basic walkthrough on the swap in the stickies and tons of other info on this site... there are a lot of things you need to consider, this is no b or k series swap in a honda, there are a lot of things you need to alter/intechange between cars and motors. gl, and before you buy anything, inform yourself to the point where you can do it with your eyes closed

It took me about 4 months of carefull reading and asking questions to start the swap, and even then, I didn't do it myself. Truly, just listen to what the guys above me have posted, search the forum (especially the Forced Induction section) and decide after that what you want to do.
3S-GTE swap would be the "easiest" to do with your GT Celica. But only if you are prepared and well informed. -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!
