I just got my car back from my paint job. I noticed there was alot of dust from the overspray and all. However, when I turned on my car, my overdrive light keeps blinking. What is that?
Second, my miles per hour arrow goes crazy. Even if I just turn on my car the miles per hour goes from 0 - 60 back down to 0 then up to 140 then back down and then it does not move at all. My odometer, the one that counts each mile is moving by itself. I know my cluster was in good working condition. It also affected my transmission. My car will rev up high and the car won't move even with the car rolling, almost like the tranny isnt catching. So i started with L then moved my way up to 2 then back to drive, then it starts moving. but it seems like my car is downshifting almost like someone is turning off my overdrive. Do you guys think that my intake or injectors got dirty from sucking in all that dust? Can I use injector cleaner? Overall, this is a bad experience for me especially when all these things were working before I dropped it off. Maybe the body men were messing around with my car. I just hope someone out here can assist me figure this out. I'd appreciate alot. -------------------- 94 Celica GT

check your battery ground cables. they might have disconnected them while working on the car, and forgot to put them back on in the right spot.
injector cleaner wont help you. the problem sounds like its an electrical one. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

ask the shop what the hell they did to your car! it does sound electrical, check connections to the transmission as well.

For some reason when I tried it out again this morning it was acting normal. What the hell is going on? I'm gonna try again when I get home from work.

damn. I'd hate to see what it would do if the people that painted did a motor swap for you.

your overdrive light is blinking because it give you a tranny code,I would look it up see what it is I think someone should have a code list. second issue sounds like a miss connection somewhere. I would have a tech look at it and then take it back to the place you paint and say my car work fine when I brought it in now it not. either make them fix the problem or have they pay your local tech to fix it.
This is a long shot your said it drive normal the next day did at any time did just not move when you press on the gas? I would check that code it could be a soloiend code that they could of unplug one or both of them. like the other person said it not injection problem. get a flashlight and look down where the tranny dipstick rod start (only name I could think of) there will be three connection down there one in the middle and two behind it the one behind are your soliend cables check to see if not unplug. Hope this help just going by what happen with my old tranny |

i started having the exact same problems this week, i've bee npainted for a week, now my odometer is not acting crazy but i am having al lthe transmission problems exactly as he stated. today for the first time i overdrive light blinked a few times,.......i about to get the transmission checked tommorrow cuz i thought it was shot. my car does try to downshift like when let of the gas, the weird thing is that when the engine heats up it drives pretty good again, i seem to having this problem majorly when the engine is cold, but i had NONE of the problems before i got painted

Damn, the problem started again after a good number of days working. The overdrive light keeps blinking on and off. I did some research online and it says: 1. my tranny is about to give up, 2. or an electrical sensor problem. Its weird though, my technique that solved it for those good numbers of days only lasted a while but so far it still seems to be working for illneversellmycelli. Anyone?

might they have pressurewashed before painting and happened to spray water under the bonnet, cause shorts in the circuits?

QUOTE(vsideboy @ Dec 4, 2006 - 6:41 AM) might they have pressurewashed before painting and happened to spray water under the bonnet, cause shorts in the circuits? My friend actually painted it at his shop with two other guys, what might have happened is there was a lot of overspray dust that got on there. Every morning or the first time I turn on my car for the day it works perfect until maybe about 5-10 miles the gauge cluster goes crazy (up and down or just stays down), my overdrive light keeps blinking and my auto trans gets out of gear or it downshifts on its own. I know its not a trans problem because my car is well maintained and it was fine before I dropped it off. If my trans was going bad, I would have seen it come slowly not just bam right away. I really believe it is an electrical/computer problem because if there is something wrong if the electrical then it affects the mechanical. could be from the dust, is there a harness or wire or sensor I can clean or check? This is sounding a bit dodgy, is it a common fault after having the car sprayed? Anyone else had it?
I guess it wouldn't happen in a proper spray booth with dust extraction then? Or are these guys using a booth? So will the dust be metallic and causing a short somewhere then? Does it just happen on Automatic Cars or on Manual too? Is it just happening on Celicas or all cars? Puts me off getting it sprayed if its gonna run crap forever after. It certainly sounds wierd to me. |

It happened to illneversellmyceli. When it works, it does work. The car was painted in a booth.

Lesson #1 dont let friends work on your car, because there are always problems and you dont want to be the bad guy by asking them to make it right.
