I was just wondering if anybody has theyre 3SGTE swapped celi as a daily driver??

Do you have alot of problems out of it, and if you do, is it alot of upkeep?

Im in quite a Situation trying to figure out what would be more cost efficient. A 3s swap, or just turboing my 5s.

i drive mine everyday.

with any turbo motor, your going to be poping the hood a lot more often then you ever had to do with your 5sfe. half of that time is going to be just for showing off the motor, and the other half is going to be spent tracking down a boost leak, or a sensor that decided to finally crap out after 16yrs.

i cant see the 5sfTe being any different. if anything, its even more experimental, because it will all depend on your install and tuning skills to keep running right.

alright then, with that being said, what gen 3s is the best bang for the buck, not only HP wise, but also mechanically sound and easy to install wise?

i know one generation produces 225 HP and one puts out like 240

forget about those specs. most 2nd gens is doing well over 240hp, when we swap them.

if you can afford it, get the 3rd gen. if you cant, get the 2nd gen. simple as that.

might be a stupid noob-like question, but after the swap, what can i expect to hang with??

We use ours as a daily. You can expect to hang with quite a bit on the street. I "hung" with my buddies 380/380 HP/TQ 05 GTO with our car.......hung about 4-5 cars back but was sticking in there none the less.

The 3s-gte is a great daily driver once you get all the kinks out. If you keep things close to stock (intake, FMIC, mild boost controller, downpipe/exhaust) it will be very reliable. You will get somewhat worse gas mileage though! laugh.gif

My swapped ST205 motor has only had problems related to things specifically related to the swap - oil filter relocation and a leaking tranny input shaft seal. If everything had been custom (ie. 5s-fte or 3s-fte in my case) you have the potential for problems everywhere.

ive had my swap since october (4th gen ) everything is great! only problems i have/had are a bent ac compressor pulley which shreds my alternator belt, and uh....thats about it! disadvantage for me is MAYBE parts finding which hasnt been a big problem, i had tweak do the swap, so things were done right (cant trust local shops around here) and i drive mine EVERY day, and my job depends on ALOT of driving, plus i have a girl that lives 75 miles away in greensboro, dont worry, its a toyota engine! its all good baby! biggrin.gif

as far as what cars you can keep up with...

1. b16, k series swaps....hondas in general...dont make me laugh if theyre turbo'd idk...
2. stock to mildly modded mustangs camaros, firebirds ....smoked em
3. havnt found out about evos or the 4wd cars yet
have fun, like lagos told me, dont worry, you can spank most of em! wink.gif

basic idea is that after you swap, any NA 4cyl or 6cyl car is no problem. im pretty sure we can take stock STI, and srt4, while an evo might be harder (from a roll).

Ive been daily driving mine for almost a year now. So far no major problems but like lagos said you will have to pop your hood a little more often than usual. Nothing major, aside from finding a boost leak or changing youre oil. I look in there twice a week to make sure nothings moved or leaking... so far so good. Its fast... you should be able to hang with plenty of fast cars. smile.gif

Mine is a daily driver as well. Don't have any problems regarding the engine. Fuel consumption is better then with my 3S-GE and no sign of oil leaks or other troubles. Engine itself was 10 years old with 60k Miles on it.

Dont need to pop the hood for engine issues. Only for Oil change or wiring in some new Electronic Gadgets/Usefull Apparatus biggrin.gif

And for the cars, my nicest were a BMW M3 and 350Z. 3 lane road with traffic light. M3/350Z looked/rev'ed at eachother and didn't expect me to be the winner biggrin.gif
