hello kiddies, hope you had a merry christmas biggrin.gif I went to fayetteville nc for the weekend and met a couple of guys out there at the local saturday nite spot. we decide to roll out to the strip (dont assume this was on the street) and one of the guys in a gti keeps egging me to take on the sti, i do it, and to my surprise, from 30mph im DEAD EVEN with him, with his boost to 17psi... he pulled on me after a while (6th gear?) i knew my car was quick but its kinda like that big kid in elementary school that dosent realize he's so strong

being that charlotte is a haven for those stining honda hatches, i never had any legit competition
where should i go from here?

1. leave the engine/turbo alone look for more ways to put available power to the ground

2. work suspension (already thinking about doing this anyway)

3. mess with the motor some more?

any suggestions?

Work on the suspension. what the point of being able to throw a hard punch if it never lands.

fit a uprated fuel pump, get a boost controller and get it setup to 1.1bar boost and the subby wont stand a chance, i know u cant do due to emission laws etc but a decat would unleash few more ponies...

p5ycho, that plan works wonders if he had a GT-4 like yourself. hehe

fit some suspension work in there and work on making your engine more effecient. IE tuning, spark, and cooling. dont disturb the 215's greatness just make it stand out more smile.gif

put the car on a dyno. see where your at, and go from there.

you dont really need much for suspension unless your looking to run the 1/4 mile every week. just get yourself some nice wide street tires with good grip

do both tongue.gif
throw in some struts and springs, and a boost controller/FCD im sure the stock fuel system is good for 15 psi if you have a walbro pump.

thats the next step, found a place in fayetteville that will do it for 50 bucks for 3 pulls! can you give me a good size lagos? im sick of these 205 40's anyway... (wear out too quick)

15 psi is how the motor comes stock biggrin.gif

i had a debate with a friend of mine, he warned me against getting 3in exhaust because of no low end although a 3in wont fit up because i have a 2.25 downpipe frown.gif (gotta get a custom fab'd dp) would that help prevent the wheel spin a bit?

Well - i will be first to say - but Guy in STi cant drive or the STi in US sucks. IMHO 3SGTE from caldina or 3gen running stock boost does not have a chance over the STi.

By the way - what year STi was?

You shouldn't have a chance against a STi, they are pretty fast.
And just forget the ct20b, that's no good turbo, I got one myself in my ST205. It lives forever but the spoolup is a catastrophy biggrin.gif

doggy, the stock sti's around here put out about 250hp to the wheels. most 3s swaps dyno at around 220-250 with basic mods. so from a roll, we should be dead even or faster then an sti.

traction wise running a 16" wheel will be better then a 17" for the fact that the more sidewall u have the better off you will be. especially on a launch...

when u launch you need to produce a "wrinkle" where the rim will start to move but the tire:road contact surface does not...this creates a small wrinkle in the tire helping traction....ie "some give" also the effect on adjusting tire pressure will increase as well

where as on a 17" or 18" rim traction will be significantly WORSE because of a smaller and stiffer sidewall. there will be no wrinkle effect and that rotational energy will just transfer straight to the road:tire contact patch and lose traction.....

if u want traction use the smallest wheel possible...with the best DOT approved DR......(if u started with an ST that will be a 14" rim)
BUT if you want to still look good or so run at GT 15 or an aftermarket 16" but for straight line traction significant drag racing u don't want to go into bigger wheels
