webcams makes regrinds for the 5s, as well as tedcams...i believe there are also a couple other companys that i cant think of off the top of my head.
as far as performance, i cant really say much, i havent seen anyone do the cams on a 94+ 5s.
a few mr2 guys have done them with some nice results.

changing cams is not worth it on the 5s. changing cams alone will not yeild much power, u need a head that flows more air. one of the best things about the 5s in the low end TQ, u will lose it by changing cams. not worth it if your gonna and boost. save your money buy the 3s head and go from there, or just boost the 5s.

umm this is not true at all
20whp can be had up top with cams.
jim snoddgrass made 147whp tuned with cams.
a 5sfte with cams would be great, cause you really dont loose anything down low, and big gains are had up top.

So, what id the general consensus? Worth doing or not?

Seems to be worth it for an NA 5S-FE?

What would opinions be doing it for a 5S-FTE?

anything you can do to help flow up top on the 5sfe, and IMO especially +turbo will really help the fall off we all depise about our little econo motor.

well u cant simply add a more aggresive cam and except an extra 20hp, i bet he had some head work, high compression pistons are not a bad idea either with cams. Also if u get to aggessive witht he cams u will have a rough idel. cams for the 5sfe will produce power but all the coinciding intake parts are not built for power.

well most people who do cams realize that its a good idea to throw in some stronger valve springs atleast. cams change soo much about how a motor performs and moves the power band around. the only thing is that i dont really care for is that yes its a DOHC but its a slave cam so you cant really tune the cams independently of each other. but for the most part the cams in there now are for TQ and gas mileage of course changing that to a performance based cam will yield gains no matter what.

to make this ideal ... i'd get times with 3sgte like lift/duration/timing

TIMING !!!!

the most important part

look up 3sgte/sr20de/4g63 cam specs and figure it out

I'd put you in the range 9.0mm lift, 240 degree duration, 25* overlap

but like they said you can't adjust cam timing on the 5sfe... so if you're going to have cams ground... have them ground with the correct timing for the powerband you target...and that way you won't have to adjust them later and you won't lose power from having them out of adjustment

Well, my 5SFE is already turbo...
I added on the Burien Turbo kit and it have been run great.
I ran a 15 flat on the quarter at high high elevation at 7psi so it's good. Now im at 14 heheh and it hasnt blow.
So i was wonder if adding cams, or get it redone will help me on the bottom end a little bit. Cause i feel like it need that.

sounds like you want a v6 swap since your already turbo. biggrin.gif
the 5sfte already has alot of torque down low any cam you put in there will push that power to the right
(later in the rpm band)

post pics of your current setup smile.gif

nothing special, just a simple set up like the Burien Toyota Kit.
