well, as im gather the parts to do the 3sgte swap, in order to save some cash now, i was wondering if it would be safe to leave the a2a intercooler there for now since i have the gt4 hood set up? i know its not very efficient and all, and i do plan on changing it out for a front mount sooner or later, but this is for temporary purposes only for a few months. i dont plan on running any extra boost for a while as well and i understand the issues of heat soak, but will it be that much of a deal is what im asking.... good idea/bad idea?
i just barely realized im in the wrong section, move me as you wish... This post has been edited by quicknstyle: Jan 9, 2007 - 8:05 PM |

no, the GT-4 hood will not help AT ALL in getting air over the intercooler.
the design of the TIMC on the 185 dictates that cold air MUST be directed directly over the top and thru the intercooler, by way of the hood SCOOP on the alltrac. the GT-4 (205) hood, is a VENT, not a scoop. huge diffrence. all the TMIC will do is heat soak on you. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

... which will result in sluggish performance due to the engine retard timing. The engine is also prone to detonation when charged air is too hot (even at the stock boost). Intercooler will be hotter than charged air, so it WILL heat up the charged air instead of cooling it down. You will also get poor gas mileage because of the ECU trying to dump more fuel in.

get a front mount. its not really that expensive to set one up these days.
the top mount should be thrown in the trash the first day you get your motor. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

or if you haven't gotten the clip, try to get a 3rd gen 3SGTE so you can use the vent on your hood !
