I want to do an engine swap to either a 3sgte or a v6. I have read that I need to get new axels. My question is do I Really need to switch my axels or is it more of a reccomendation? If I need to, then where would I get GT axels? and how much do they cost? and can I put them on myself(ie not too difficult) ?

It depends on what tranny you use. If you use the tranny that come with a GT (S-53), you could still use the axles. However, the S-53 is limited in power, which is why I recommend going with a E-153 (MR2 Turbo / Solara) tranny. With this tranny, you WILL need custom axles. |

First off, that swap is going to be hella hard. You have an ST...you'd have to get some custom work done anyways to fit the 3sgte...and definitely for the v6. IF I were you, which I'm not, I'd either doa custom turbo kit on that thing...which many people have had success with on the 7afe...or I'd swap the 1.6L 4agze. If I had an ST...personally I'd rather do the custom turbo kit along with a 4agze head swap.

What custom work are you talking about? As far as I know, its just the motor mounts that I need to get done. I do know that I'd prolly need rear disc instead of drums. Just let me know what custom work. Thanks ps. Its doesn't seem that hard with the V6 since the guy with the 5th gen put it in his car. |

That's pretty much it bro. That's mounts are going to be the hardest task of the swap in an ST, which isn't that difficult at all since this is a massive project to begin with. In addition, you will need custom axles, depending on which tranny you use. And you're right about the drum to disc conversion, which isn't mandatory, but recommended. |
