Hi

Well i finally save some money to buy a Apexi Power Fc with commander and go to buy one but get told that Apexi have stopped making them!!

I dont know much about ECU's so i find myself in a bit of a dilemah, i dont really trust the shops as they just want a sale and ill believe anything they say,

so if anybody would be able to suggest a ECU that is as good as or maybe slightly better than the Apexi ECU it would be much appreciated??

also is it better to have a ECU that doesnt need a air flow meter?

Thanks

beno, your best bet when going with a EMS is to find a REALLY good tuner, then suit your EMS to what they specialize in.

removing the afm makes your car illegal here in the states but removing it frees up horsepower and gives the system their own sensors to read your car. Check out the AEM EMS w/ wideband (very common) but as pressure said find your tuner and ask what they think. If they are more familar id go that path.

Ok, so... that's bad news that the ST205 Power FC is discontinued!

Anybody know where there are any left? I was most definitely planning on getting one for my motor - and this ruins those plans...

phatty duck, try ebay as all the businesses i have emailed (including the overseas ones) dont have them anymore

Is AEM a brand name?
Is EMS another name for an aftermarket ECU?

What things would a good tuner have? just to give me a bit of a heads up

http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/price/Toyo...ent_Stand_Alone

Is thge power fc from horsepower freaks, a 3s is a 3s.

AEM is a brand found here.
http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/price/Toyo...ent_Stand_Alone

You could also go motec but thats like using a nuke to kill a fly. Not needed for our applications.

Good tuners will have access to a dyno, a laptop to tune, and a wideband among other things. Perhaps access to racegas if you want an agressive tune as well. and most of all experience.

the Hydra Nemesis is also an option http://mrcontrols.com/
Its not widley known so unless you know a tuner familar with it dont go that route. I have it, and im satisfied, but if I went back id go Power FC. (hell i wouldnt of used the 3s either haha)

actually....a 3s is not a 3s...the Apexi versions are different and won't work correctly unless paired with the right motor....IE a ST205 Apexi should only be used on a 205 version motor, an ST185 should be used on the ST185...the different gen motors run differently..and the ECU pin outs might not be the same..
but if APEXI is gone, AEM makes a pretty good plug and play and widely used..
but as previously said

you should find a tuner first that you trust and has a good reputation.. figure out what they use the most and are comfortable with and then go with that EMS (engine management system aka an ECU)

no one has mentioned the megasquirt2, but the nuke vs fly analogy may be apt in that case...

Two very good options to go for

Link ECU...better than the PowerFC but only slightly more expensive to buy...has launch control and anti lag features etc.

if you have a little more money then the next small step up is a Hydra nemasis ECU....

beyond that cost wise your looking at Motec ECU`s but they dont offer much more than the Hydra nemesis or Link ECU`s but they are proven technology where as the other two are relitavely new.

The Link and Hydra are both for US Gen2 3s-gte motors, correct?

A few of use are looking for Gen3 compatible ECUs (ie, no rewiring)...

Both the link ECU and the Hydra nemesis are availabe for the 2nd gen and 3rd gen 3sgte, both are very good with awesome potential...especially for track days and 1/4 mile etc...I plan on getting one of those two within the next couple of weeks..probably the nemesis...the guy who makes them is very good at mapping and lives not to far from me.
