We have a Toyota club running in Ireland/UK and one of our members is about to start producing a new style fibreglass hood skin for the 6gc.
(Its going to be very similar to the top-secret hood in style)

The cost of which will be determined by the amount of interest raised by potential customers.

Here is a cut of what he had to say:

"I am in talks with a new design company, about making full fiberglass bonnet skins which will have a built in scoop for the 6th Generation Celica.(The scoop design has already been decided) "

So just to gather the numbers of people who might be interested, can you post any comments or questions in the Celica forum on our site?

The link is here...

That would look pretty hot. If someone is good with photoshop could you fit that hood or something similar onto a Celica. Also, this GB might not do too well right now since the C-One GB is happening right now along with several others. You'd probably get more involvement if you waited to do this in the summer or sometime later when people have more money.

Yeah, I know what you are saying.....

But he really wants to start production asap.....that wide arch kit is going to be a part of it too.

It will widen the 6th gen by 8" in total....he's just going to be developing the hood to begin with and then the wide arch kit.

Should be different anyway...always nice to see a new item coming out for the Celica....

Remember the afterburner lights....they look awful but they are all you can get, so people buy them.....

But anyway..thanks for the suggestion everything is noted! wink.gif

Hi. Would be interested in a bonnet, but couple of questions:

When you say a 'hood skin' do you mean a complete replacement for the bonnet or something that is stuck to the original bonnet?

Would want to see pictures before putting my name down for definate and hear some prices.

Cheers,

Steve.

Well..apparently he is making two types..a full hood replacement and a skin replacement.

If you lift up your hood and look under where the lining is...you should be able to see that the actual external sheet matal is removeable..leaving just the cross frame.

The replacement skin goes on there as a dircet replacement...so theres no cutting or anything like that needed.

But you'd probably be better off just asking the man himself.

He's not looking for definite buyers, just a few posts from people stating that they might be interested.

He is definiely making them, it's not a case that he is trying to decide whether to make them or not.

I'm getting it myself for my own car and he is developing a wide arch kit at the same time to complement the hood.

I'm using my own car as a show car for the Toyota-irl.com club so I have ordered it already.

But you should just for the sake of it post under the thread and get the list going..its not everyday that a 6gc specific item is being offered up for manufacture.

I'd be interested but i dont know about widening the front, i think thats what you said? 8 inches is a hell of a lot to widen the front of the car, and iono how that would look.

Well the widening is mostly at the back the front is only another 2" I think....and it's been drawn up already it looks pretty well to be honest....
I was thinking the same myself when I heard it.
(I mean the celica already has wide arches!)

Then again, doesn't the Supra have wide arches too....and the addition of the extra 8" to the one in the picture above makes it even better in my opinion.

But I guess we have to wait and see how the project car turns out.
The wide arch kit is a bit of a guarded secret, so the pics won't be available until it has been completely finished.

He's just making the hood for people to begin with anyway..it will be months before the wide arch kit will be ready, so I'll be posting the pics up when I have them.

But if anyone wants updates just register there in the forum...he should be updating the thread on a daily basis as the work continues!

Cheers!

1) Carbon fiber or fiberglass?
2) Shipping to the States?

Answer those two and he'll probably get a lot more/less buyers.

i have a black car so i prefer not having carbon fiber, otherwise i have to paint it because i think CF on black is ugly and painting CF is wasted money for me.

And i dont care about shipping ill pay whatever it takes as long as this hood doesnt cost as much as a real Top Secret

To begin with the hood will be fibreglass......there are plans for a CF one later in the year.

There is going to be a distributer based in the US once production starts, so it should be available to US buyers locally.

Because the distributer will be bringing in the hoods in volume, the vast amount of the shipping costs should be dissolved.

Thats the plan anyway...as I say its still in production, but that is the plan he is working with.

Should be interesting...hes driving a 6th gen too, so hes got the right attitude!

Uhm, would this hood only fit the wide arch kit he's developing (or would it not matter?). Also, would it have our headlight curves still?

It will fit the standard 6th gen....

The wide arch kit is coming later on.

The hood will keep the same headlight curves.....its basically a direct replacement that will replace your existing hood without the need for any modifications.
