Hi everyone. I read the howto on the antenna switch, and went "SWEET!".
I've put a switch between the wires (pink/blue) and (black/red), and it works fine... at raising the antenna. The only problem is... simply disconnecting those two wires doesn't lower the antenna. How does the antenna system work? The only way for me to lower it at the moment is by turning off the tape deck.. which kind of defeats the whole purpose soo... Which wires power the antenna down? Is there actually a way to wire a switch to make the antenna go up and DOWN, or was the writer of the how-to just full of ****? (I'm a little pissed because I dont want to have cut my factory wires for nothing.) Please help! Arg.. Now the reception is non existant. Is the pink/blue wire the antenna-receceiving line? I wired the pink/blue back together, but the reception is still completely gone. Any thoughts? This post has been edited by kamixZR: Mar 10, 2003 - 6:22 AM |

If you have no reception you might wanna check and make sure you got your antenna plugged into your deck.

erm ns?
The thing is.. I cut the pink/blue wire, and now after wiring it back up it doesn't seem to be carrying the signal at all. (if that is the antenna signal wire). I'm really pissed because I have no radio now, and my factory CD player heats up and crashes after about an hour of play. |

The pink/blue and black/red need to get 12vdc + to send the antenna up. When there is no 12vdc + the antenna will motor down.
When you said "I've put a switch between the wires (pink/blue) and (black/red), and it works fine... at raising the antenna" Did you connect the pink/blue and black/red wires together? If they are that could be the reason for the overheating. Putting a DPST switch will do the job. It has a contact for each wire. Keep everything seperate and it should work fine. Let me know how it goes. |

Ok AudioFreak I will do that tonight. I had a regular on/off 12v switch.
I didn't really explain it properly.. when I got the car, and before I chopped the antenna wires the CD player was already overheating. I'm pretty sure its just old age.. and I want a new double deck soon anyway. Another question is can you, or someone, explain the antenna wire? Which wire carries the signal to the deck? I have looked at your explanation of the wires in another post and can't see which is the "reception wire", I can post a pic of it if you want.. but I'm pretty annoyed that I get fuzz only now.. any wondering why. Btw any tips on the best way to get a 12v supply, should I leach off the deck cable, or is there anywhere else to get 12v power from? |

The antenna signal is carried through a thick piece of coax cable with a special connector on it. It plugs into the back of the radio into it's own connector. Just look for a thick black wire... looks like cable tv wire just a hair thinner if I remember the connector is on the back of the radio but way off to the side. None of the wires in the harness carry signal.
The antenna connector looks like this http://www.partsexpress.com/images/090-455m.jpg As far as the 12v supply. Just find the pink/blue and black/red coming off the deck and use them for the supply. Just connect them so that when the switch is on it's like there is no switch at all. Both of the wires trigger a relay pack and timer at the antenna and they have to work together. |

Yea AudioFreak is right.
This is what you should look for to make sure your antenna will recieve a signal. If this is dangeling then you found your problem. |

Yep that was the problem, plus I had trouble sorting through the wires. Antenna goes up, antenna goes down! This PDF helped a lot though -> , It maps out each wire by location on the harness instead of colour codes
I have finished soldering everything and it looks really nice Thanks for the help. This post has been edited by kamixZR: Mar 12, 2003 - 3:03 AM |

there is a nut on top of the antenna. With the antenna down you will see the notches cut into the nut. It just spins off. There is a special wrench for it but I have never needed it. Inside the fender there is a bracket that holds the motor. Not much too it.

if your antenna dosen't go down it's probably the plastic drive piece inside the antenna mast. If take the nut off you should be able to pull out the mast and put in a new one. Your motor still works right?

All celicas came with power antennas.
So if yours doesn't go down then it's fuked up. And good luck gettin it out. But i'll still give ya a call if you need me to and walk you through it. You shouldn't have any problems with bustin your antenna off since you got the Euro one. |
