Okay, I've been posting on these forums looking into putting a turbo in my car, but then I started to realize that almost everytime someone puts a turbo in a 5sfe, they end up swapping anyway. So, money isn't an issue (to an extent), and I just want to know if I should just skip that and do a swap instead. I won't be doing it myself because I actually want my car to WORK afterwards, so my experience won't be a problem. I just want to know where I would get an engine, which type, how much, other tips and pointers, maybe (and I really think I should) change my auto to a manual. The car I have is listed to the left, so if any other info is needed, just let me know.

I know it has been discussed, but I just wanted more of a personalized opinion about it. I mean, maybe a vert shouoldn't be swapped with a certain engine due to chassis strain or something. If you think about it, almost everthing possible has been discussed at one point or another on these forums. I was just trying to get advice specifically tailored to my situation. I know I could search and find most of that info, but maybe someone knows of a great new source for engines or something like that. So if anyone knows anything else, about what I asked, just post whatever might be helpful. Thanks.

1. buy a clip from jarco or ebay
2. do the swap yourself. no one will put as much care into your car as you will.
3. yes, you can swap a vert with no problems.

Well I'm pretty good mechanically, but I just have no experience with engines. How long would that take and would it be a good idea without any real engine experience?

ill put it to you this way. after your swap is done, your going to have some bugs to work out. this happens on everyones swap, regardless of who did it. if you did the work yourself, you'll learn everything you need to know about the car and be able to diagnose and fix future problems. if you paid someone to do the work for you, you'll be totally clueless and stressed out because your car stopped running and you don't know why. when in reality, a simple vac hose just needs to be reconnected to fix the issue (or something like that).

There are alot of people who do it theirselfs, and a lot who pay someone to do it. They both have there advantages. Swapping is pretty simple as taking one out and putting a new in, when you read all the info on this site about it. I've thought of doing it, but I like my car were it's at. If I were to do it, I image I would have more problems finding the parts than putting the motor in. But, if you don't have the tools and you really don't think you can do it, pay someone. Just expect to keep paying them when things go wrong, as you would any machanic to fix your car.

Well I agree that doing it myself would give me a great chance to learn my engine. Thanks for the advice and if I decide to do it, I'll definately do it myself. I guess replacing something with what is essentially the same thing can't be THAT hard! Thanks again for the advice.
