Normal operating temperature problem, whats the normal operating temperature? Options

hey guys, my gauges have been known to be misleading, like my fuel gauge for half a year been about a centimeter off, so when i was full on gas, it would be at the second bar, and when it would be empty it would be below the E bar, ect... (it eventually fixed itself????)so im wondering what the normal temperature is for a Celica ST, MY teacher at school has a Check Engine thing, which tells all the details on the engine, like rpm idle speed misfires, ect, and my temperature read.... crap i forgot, i think it was 81degrees Celsius. is that normal? well, whatever it is i cant seem to fix it. its about 3/4s way to the top, and has never gone above, or below,. i've changed the thermostat, the coolant where u can check it, is kinda brownish? im not sure if its the Toyota coolant, or it has a gasket leak ? but in the radiator its still green so i dont know, any feedback will help! thanks...

Someone probably mixed green and Toyota red.
That will create a brownish color.

While you can mix most coolants [it won't create any type of crazy chemical reaction] it's not the best idea.
Partly because of the misleading color it can create.

IMO, use Toyota red and distilled [NOT tap] water.

Most green coolants have silicates in them.
According to Toyota silicates are bad for water pump seals. :shrug:

Toyota red doesn't have silicates.
However, because of this it's anti corrosion properties don't work very well with hard [lots of minerals] water. Distilled water is pure H2O.

81* C is 178* F.
Which is totally fine.
The gauges in your panel aren't always 100% accurate....
