I drove my dads solara on and off for a year now and I had no idea it has sport shifting. My boyfriend let me in on the secret that my dad wouldnt tell me about and I tested it out. It was pretty neat being able to switch from automatic to manual. Kinda weird not having to push a clutch in but I like it!

I know im probably the last person on this board to drive a car with sport shifting but I thought id share my experience.

I drove a BMW 330i and a Infiniti G35, both with sport shifting (the beemer had paddles on the steering, heh). Personally I like neither. Really doesn't shift fast enough, or actually, it just might be a timing issue.

Then again, I can do 1, 2, D in my '95 auto Cavalier. Now that's what I call "sport shifting"! laugh.gif

i drove an Acura TL with sport shiffting...it shifted from first to 2nd on its own, which is about 95% of the driving you do (stop and go) and after that its all up to you.

I didnt like it on the TL, but i have driven it on other cars like a Hyundai Santa Fe, but that car had Downshifting problems. IF your rpm were at 3k and u try to downshift the onboard pc says "HELL NO!" and u basicly shuts down, and you stay in your current gear for a mile.

I don't like it. Still feels like an auto car. Shifting + clutch + gas is the real thing.

I remember test driving an RX8 with the sport shifter and paddle shifters on the steering wheel also. I'm not a fan for that sort of thing, to me it's not the real feel of a manual transmission car with a clutch.

ok lets make clarifications

VW = DSG
BMW = SMG

by DEFENITION i don't care who you are SMG and DSG are both MANUAL transmissions. they BOTH have clutches and pressure plates just the movement of the hydrolic is done electronically by YOUR selection. It will NOT select a gear for you it will not up or down shift for you
i've tested both E46 M3 SMG and the brand new M5 SMG as well as the new VW DSG
VW DSG is an 8millisecond shift which is the fastest so far

i <3 the SMG its great
