Just wondering how many ST205/3rd gen 3SGTE parts are in common with the 2nd gen 3SGTE. I know the blocks are nearly identical between the two generations......mainly I'd like to know about things like timing belt and tensioner, spark plugs, distributor, plug wires, injector O-rings, etc.

I suspect that they're interchangable but I know that a few of you with the ST205 motor would know for sure.

Thanks everyone in advance. smile.gif

Yeah, the block is heftier and more reinforced somehow, I've heard this as well. But as far as external parts go for tune ups, like belts, water & oil pump, ignition....mostly the same?

I mean I could always just find OEM part numbers and order stuff from Toyota, but I figured maybe some of you that swapped 3rd gens would know what works and what doesn't.

actually, its the other way around. the 3rd gen block is said to be weaker then the 2nd gen one. this doesn't mean a whole lot in the real world tho, as either block gets the job done.

about 90% of the parts are the same. there is a list on MR2OC of all the differences and their part numbers. just look up the part number on there and you should be able to order anything you need directly from toyota.

yea 3rd gen does have the weaker block that is what worries me with my setup plans as i'll be planning on using a 3rd gen ST205....but looking at tuffy 600bhp it can't be THAT much weaker.....

and you can always sleeve the block wink.gif

I'm sure the 3rd gen is plenty strong, no doubts about it. wink.gif
